Flying on the Water - (Advanced)

by FliteTest | May 6, 2015 | (6) Posted in How To

Alan Bruce took some time to do some flying on the water with his Roadrunner equipped with floats!

We've covered flying on water in the past. (you can check that out below)

This tips shared in the above video is great for smaller airplanes but Alan wanted to share some advanced tips with flying larger scale airplanes on the water.

His roadrunner is running a O.S. FT-300 Gemini Twin-Cylinder Ringed 4-Stroke Engine.

Flying off the water is the same as flying on land, you'll want to take off in the wind.

As the plane lifts off the the water you'll want to throttle up and get the airplane up onto the front step.

Once on the step, the plane will smooth out and lift out of the water.

As with everything, practice makes perfect.

You'll want to avoid "bunny-hops" on your landing, this skipping action can cause you a nice spill.

Keep an eye out for Peter's tugboat in an upcoming episode!

Flying on the water is always a great time and we hope the tips Alan shared in this episode were helpful for you and your time flying on the water.

We'd like to thank Alan for taking the time and we'd like to also thank those of you in the Flite Test community, for sharing your tips and tricks in the articles, forum and comments!
