Scale P47 photos

Thought some people may enjoy seeing some photos of my completed Top Flite P47 model. Something I was doing before I got into FPV. It took 5 years on and off to build, and isn't exactly the normal type of plane shown on this site - but may be of interest to some. It is my first kit build and heavily modified from the original, with many scale details added inlcuding:

- Electric convertion
- Razorback to bubbletop converstion
- Retracts moved to the scale location
- Scale retract doors designed and made
- Retractable tailwheel
- Glassed and fully panel lined and riveted to scale locations
- Working drop tank release

It hasn't flown yet, as I am waiting until I finish my thesis before I reward (or possibly punish) myself with the maiden.

The build thread is here is anyone wants to see the detail. Pictures below...

Wow thanks very much guys. Very kind of you. I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested as this site doesn't usually do scale stuff. I appreciate the comments, and yes when I fly it I'll post a video. It will be a while though!

Haha. Thanks but I don't think so (in fact I know that's not true. I remember every shortcut I took...)

Your attention to detail and skill are both extremely impressive. Your plane is a beauty! Do you have any pics or videos from during the build? I would love to see your painting techniques. Awesome!

Thanks very much. I added a link to the build thread above the first picture, but here it is again http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=861095

I did a very detailed build log so you can see every step of the process, including finishing and painting.

Just need a Sound Module, and I think you'll have one convincing plane :) great work!no way would I have the patience for something like that, then if I did, I wouldn't want to fly it, for fear of crashing!

Ha! Yeah it will be a nervous maiden that's for sure. It will fly early in the new year I'd say. Fingers crossed.

Great job!

My initial comment (I'll stick to it:)) was going to be "What great detail".
After seeing that most previous posters commented something along those line, I started think, Ok, what to say then?
But this is the core to what makes this extraordinary; great eye for detail and very well executed!!

Thanks very much! This was my first scale build, so it was essentially my practice plane to learn all of the techniques. My next one will be better if I can ever get to start it!

Thank you very much for sharing your magnificent work! Good luck with finishing your thesis!
And if you dare: Please share a video of the maiden when the time is there.

I will "pile on" with everyone else by saying: Great Job!! I will definitely check out the build thread. I am especially interested in how you obtained the metallic look on the drop tanks. Certainly looks like real aluminum.

I used a rattle an paint called WhiteKnight Chrome. It is actually the same paint on the fuse, but I weathered it by rubbing it down with steel wool.

Wow! That is one incredible build dude. I don't think I could ever build anything anywhere near as good as that! Best of luck with the maiden, I can see why you are a bit nervous haha! :)

Did you ever think of entering a scale competition? That is one of the most beautiful aircraft I've ever seen! Definitely TopGun worthy.

Wow that's high praise indeed! But no I wouldn't consider an event like that. The build is no way close to that standard. It would be cool to enter some more local scale events though. We will have to see... Still haven't even flown it yet! Thanks for the comments, greatly appreciated.

Hi Gree,

Aly here again, I have bought myself a top flite P47 60 size, and plan to make the same scheme. Now that I have finished my stab and elevator and now working on the fuse, man I must admire your patience and skill. This is one awesome work you have produced.
Amazing job mate.
