The Slim-Quad

On my hunt to find the best H-Quad version.(I have build a few). Last night a new design popped up in my head. So once again running down to the local hardware store, to purchase the material I needed.

1 PVC pipe 40mm
1 10x10mm aluminium bar
4 PVC clamp for 40mm PVC pipe
1 80x80 electrical box
some bolts and nuts.

The electronics I striped from an earlier H-Quad. Motor, ESC, KK2.0 board.

So this is the design I came up with. The ESC are inside the pipe.
The weight of the frame without electronics 320g.

It was an easy build. Cut the PVC pipe 450mm long, Cut the aluminum bars each 450mm long.
Bolted the aluminiums bars to each PVC clamp and mounted this on the PVC pipe.

To keep the clamp from rotating or moving, I just used a screw which also holds the very simple landing gear.

I also used the same PVC clamp to hold the electricaøl box in place, containing the KK2.0 flight controller and the receiver.

The cables run inside the 40mm pipe, and goes up inside the box. The power cable goes out under the box. The ESC are inside the PVC pipe.

Just used a bit of velcro on the pipe to fasten the camera and battery. And a velcro strap around for extra security.

Total weight with battery and camera. little over 1300g. Flight time with 3 cell 2200 mAh approx 7 min.

Very stable in the air, and not much jelo on the camera. Maybe I will do some modification to the camera mount to get all jelo away, but I have to do some fine tuning of the KK2.0 board first. To see if it is necessary.

Uppdate 29-04-2013 short flight movie.

Hi, that is correct. One 500mm pipe part and two 500mm arms. I purchased the clamps in a local Norwegian store. But this clamps should be available in any store that are selling bathroom sink, etc. The clamps are used to fasten the drain pipe from the sink to the wall.
Her is the link to the Norwegian store, http://www.biltema.no/no/Bygg/VVS/Ror-og-rordeler/Tilbehor/Klemmer-enkle-2-pk-86931/
Hope this helps.

Wow very nice. Clean and simple, just the way I like it. Have you considered making the arms PVC as well, and then that way you could take it apart (not all the wires, but enough to swing the arms inside for travel). Or would that just be too heavy/flimsy?

Thank you. That is a good idea. But I think maybe I would build it a bit larger, so it would not seem so chubby.:-) And some fastening with screws in the joint. I have no problem with the PVC arms on my V-tail. And that has longer arms. Maybe the arms could be 20mm PVC pipe?

Yeah that would be cool. And if they're just friction fit and have an arresting bolt/screw then break down for transport would be really quick.
