$1 Tree Foam Dividers For Organizing R/C Stuff

This is where I store my r/c supplies, tools and parts.  I purchased the three drawer units at Walmart but they can also be found at Hobby Lobby, Michaels or Target.  The small white trays shown in the drawers were purchased at Hobby Lobby.

The drawers didn’t always look this neat and organized.

Each one of the large drawers can hold two of these plastic, white trays.  Before this project, I used to store my r/c parts, etc. in the plastic baggies that they came in when they were purchased.  This made it easier to keep the items organized but as I purchased more and more items, the baggies started getting disorganized.  I had so many baggies in a tray that finding something was frustrating.

I purchased this plastic storage box at Hobby Lobby after seeing a similar box in Ace hardware containing various sizes of shrink wrap tubing.  Not only was it less expensive at Hobby Lobby but it gave me a solution to my mess of baggies!

I used some Dollar Tree foam and cut dividers to fit the tray. The top piece of foam will fit the tray from top to bottom, while the other piece from left to right.  The notches enable the foam to fit inside the slots.

Here is one drawer with two trays.  There are some parts that still need to be in baggies, like the 3mm bullets because they are small.  This is much neater and organized than a bunch of baggies!

Here is another drawer where I combined different pieces of foam to make various dividers.  You can hot glue the foam to each other if needed.  I just taped them together.

For drawers where I keep very large r/c items, such as propellers, I came up with a long divider that fits in the drawer without the use of a tray.  In the picture, the top piece is the divider while the bottom pieces are used as spacers so that the dividers are spaced evenly.

Here are the dividers in a large drawer being put together.  The dividers are hot glued into the drawer on the sides.

Now I have a place to store all my propellers.

Now, what shall I do with all of the baggies?

I hope this project gives you some of ideas of how to keep your r/c supplies, tools and parts well organized in your workshop!

Good idea! I store all my RC and Arduino stuff in bags. I sometimes think I order things just to have more bags. :-) I think it's time for a change.

Nice! I have a workbench with all of my tools in it, but for stuff like props, zip ties, tape, etc, I chuck em in a tool case that I always take to the field. I would like to see if I can modify it to be used here too though. Also, where do you get so many props?

You should not have any issues modifying it for your needs as foam is so easy to cut.
I usually get my props from HobbyKing. I crash a lot so i need lots of props :-)
