Hi there. Ive had the same issues, its hard to get any tape to stay stuck to EPP.
Ive found any water based glue takes too long to dry, like you I cant wait a week :-)
E6000 glue also works really well for hinges, its quite cheap, really thick & spuer tacky.

It is good to know about this glue, and if you're happy I guess that is ok. But, I want my planes to look REAL / SCALE.
