EDF FPV

by FliteTest | May 14, 2012 | (22) Posted in Projects

In this episode of Flite Test, Josh and Josh show us the EDF FPV! This is an EDF jet that we made FPV! We also made our video receiver and plane transmitter into a handheld ground station! Watch this episode to see what we did.

Below are some photos of the process of building the handheld ground station.

An RCA DVD player for the car that comes with a 2nd monitor!

The 2nd monitor is the same size as the one with the DVD player built in. So it should have some room to add some goodies!

Took apart the monitor and the video RX. Now we get to mash them together!

It took a little work. I had to break away some pieces to get everything to fit.

I ended up chewing away more than I expected :[

Still looks fairly discreet.

Now I need to make a mount for the screen with armature wire.

Also had to move the controller TX antenna out of the way.

Add a little hot glue (like always) and we're ready to mount the monitor!

All done!!

Thanks for watching!

I love this kind of videos. For those who wants to save on the screen, here is a suggestion: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/4-3-tft-lcd-monitor-for-car-vehicle-960-x-468-dc-12v-116245?item=434

Cheers, keep it up.

Looks similar to my set-up:

I'm surprised I haven't seen more of this set-up around, I assumed there must have been some fatal downside to it. Glad to find out I'm not the only one using it.

Do you need a HAM radio license to fly fpv or transmit fpv? I really want to but some say you need a license for ANY transmitting, others say only certain frequencies are legal but most every fpv system has one of the legal frequencies. WHAT DO I DO?!

This article points out the legal frequencies in the US... http://flitetest.com/articles/Video_TX/RX_Frequency_Chart

Nice one guys, great fun, I love FPV on little birds as you can see with my Fox build on here, if you want speed on a little bird, try putting FPV on the Park Jet, it works really well.

That is very very cool. Do you prefer a screen or Goggles? I haven't flown FPV yet and I'm about to venture into it. I dig Trappy's goggles, I'd think, and I'm only guessing that it would be more immersing to use to goggles.

I would't do it in such a small plane but the idea of putting a screen on the remote is really cool!
