Life & Times My YC-14, a Mikey's RC Design

This is my second scratch build. It is my first scratch plane with full function control surfaces and my first twin motor plane. It has a built in bomb bay and a nice platform up front for my GoPro and FPV cam. It was also the first plane I flew FPV with, which didn't turn out so well in the end, as you can see in one of the following videos.

The plane took a couple of weekends to build with just dollar tree foam board, hot glue and a a few tonuge depressors. It flies for about 20 minutes on two 2200 mah 3s batteries. A lot of people were surprised how well it flew with its boxy shape and flat airfoil wings but it climbs strongly out of you hand with a gentle push and could carry quite a bit of weight.

I crashed and repaired the plane several times but what finally caused me to retire it, was a creased wing that happened after pulling out of a dive, that you can see in the blueberry field video. One cool thing you can see  that same vid is a slow motion shot, as I launch the plane you can actually see the wings start to bend upward as they create lift.

This next video is a little slow but you can see my application to join the Darwin Award Club as I almost crash into my head.

Flying over the Blueberry barrens in early summer, very scenic:

Two nice crashes and my first not so great FPV flight:

and

I needed a better quality fpv cam, I think it was the contrast between sky/sun and the ground. Also my first fpv flight and I tried to share the goggles.

Hey Good Kebo, if you go to experimentalairlines on YT (http://www.youtube.com/user/ExperimentalAirlines)... search his site, Ed shows you how to take the dollar tree foam and bend it and make a true airfoil. I've actually made 5 YC14's, I wear 'em out, physically. Although Ed has the best idea on the foam, what I do is I use carbo arrows for spars, that stiffens the wing right up!!!
Between Will from Mikeysrc and Ed at Experimentalairlines, this plane is awesome!
Check him out, or my site also, hawkskyflier on TY. Thanks for the videos. Jerry

So you built the YC with the Armin wing? Cool! I actually found Ed's stuff about the time my YC was wearing out, so I built a twin motor plane, just slightly bigger than the YC that could hold a couple of cameras and it even worked, even flew well once I figured out the CG. I even FPVed it and didn't crash. Whew. Check it out http://flitetest.com/articles/The_Saga_of_the_Priority_Mail
