OSRC - Open Source Remote Control

by Gizmoman | October 24, 2012 | (15) Posted in Projects

Being an RC Flyer my self for many years and with the help of engineering experience that was collected over the years i set out to create one of the most advanced remote control systems.

What initially started as a simple sketch on paper, after more than a year of development became a fully functional system with modular design and many accessories. To top it all off the entire project was set from the start to be Open Source and available to the community.

Currently the system is being developed for 3D printed production and small batch manufacturing. Every unit is assembled by hand. Spread the word and submit your own feedback if you like the project.

Feel free to visit the project website at www.os-rc.com and if you have any questions then please don't hesitate to ask.

I am not trying to be mean or harsh, but I watched your video and honestly, if your trying to convey a message about your remote control, it was lost.

I have no idea what the point of the video was, but I saw the title and was interested in seeing the remote and understanding why I should care. All I got was a video that had next to nothing about the remote and a lot of boring, useless information about your day.

You might want to consider actually giving us something about the remote, your elevator pitch, so-to-speak, about why we should care and get excited.

Most videos were created after the initial release of the system to the public. At that time promises about funding were made and not followed through. The initial idea of the first video was to be a teaser and not an explanatory video of the system. More information about features of the system can be found in the "Products" section of the website. Unfortunately the project has been alive for almost 2 years now and at this point all funds for any sort of media have been depleted. There was ton of documentation about features of the system on a Wiki but due to Domain expiration and the simple fact that the project didn't have any support that documentation now has been archived on a shut down server. Why you should care? That's up to you to decide. All info about the project can be found on the OSRC website. If there is something you do not understand then feel free to ask and i shall be more than happy to explain.

I am glad that you do not go the cheap way to sell off the unit. good luck to your project!

The system is comprised of many modules and additions. It can be as simple and affordable as a basic control system or a UAV ground station, based on what setup one chooses to have. Among the modules are the FPVC ones, which can be just additional buttons, FPV Receiver or a complete Linux based embedded device with GSM, GPS, Touch Screen and other additions. Some parts are simple micro controller based, others are 1GHz processor based with Linux functionality.

Have you checked with Hobby King?

Gizmoman on October 24, 2012
Sure. Hobbyking wanted to make it as cheap as possible with pricing that would simply make the system just another Cheap knock off, removing all the features that make it unique.

I have been clicking on your links and watching your videos for 20 minutes now. And I'm almost more confused than when I started. I have so many questions.
If you want to get the message out... it needs to be clearly conveyed as quickly as possible. What are you trying to do? Get funding? Sell product? Develop? Feedback?
It looks like you have done a terrific job of developing something amazing! But I don't know where to buy it or how to help. Please explain in a couple sentences...
1) What would you like to accomplish?
2) How can someone help?

The project has been around for almost 1 & 1/2 years now. All prototyping and preparations brought the system to its production stages. Unfortunately, finding the most important part, the Funding for the production turned to be the most hard thing to do.

What the project needs right now is funding for a proper production run so what i want to accomplish is find an investor who would be willing to help the project grow and be produced as well as become available for distribution.

There was tons of documentation written on how the project operates and functions but unfortunately due to a depleted budget all that was stored and removed from the web.

Although there has been quite a lot of history behind the ups and downs of the project for some time, i summarized the current state of the project on the OSRC website's home page at www.os-rc.com

If there are any specific questions anyone wants to ask then feel free to do so and i shall do my best to explain.

I am half way through this video already and haven't seen much that is even RC related let alone any information about this project. Oh there it is, some menus in the last two minutes. I am more confused than before, this is getting the word out? What word? Who are you trying to reach? What is your goal?

Ok, so I read the comments now. You are looking for investors to start a company, is that right? Well I would like investors too, if anyone out there is throwing money for stuff like this, I have a ton of ideas, shoot me an email...

Sorry to hear that you are confused. Check out the OSRC website for any information about the control system. No need to create a company since as you shall read in the details GizmoForYou (the company under which this product was created) already is a registered, legal entity. I am sure that when you materialize your ton of ideas into a functional product and they are good enough, investors would definitely notice your hard work and expertise. If you have questions then don't hesitate to ask.

I don't get it. I know this is an old topic, but it just seams odd. the idea that you need more funding before you can go from making videos about nothing to videos about your project doesn't make sense. Youtube is free. You own a camera. Sit in front of a camera and give us an explanation and demonstration of that the product does. Yes, it would be great to have superior production quality and editing, but you aren't going to get off the ground until you at least show off what you have now. Go for it.
