So Low It Could Be Called Driving & Night Flight: Proximity: FPV

by StoneBlueAirlines | January 16, 2013 | (14) Posted in Challenges

Its StoneBlueAirlines back again for more FPV fun. This time we fly so low it could have been called driving. I Jeremiah aka Bondjr was filming from my 7 inch lcd ground station with my cell phone and also from the air with my keychain cameras & Alex aka iBcrazy had on board flight footage only. Just to keep things straight when watching this video and know who is who. My plane also has stripes of silver on the wings so it is easier to pick out who is who when we fly now.

We were flying at a fun industrial park that had its fields recently cut and turned into hay bails. This was perfect for some low flying action in the fields and lots of proximity flying.

We flew about as low as was possible during this flying session including wing drags by Alex and yours truly Bondjr with my touch and go that almost ended up in a double plane crash. Alex's touch and no go, but hey this is FPV and this is fun. Get out and try some low flying action and link your videos back to my channel for sharing I would love to see them.

We finished our session with a little night flying and by the time it was time to land I could not see a darn thing. Time to put my night lens on for the next night flight.

Enjoy! Build, Fly, Crash, Repair, Repeat.

Nice flying Jeremiah and Alex. The FPV chasing looks like a lot of fun. What camera and lens are you guys using for FPV? Looks like they work great for day or night.

Sony 600 tvl with 2.8 lens. i have a 1.8 that would be better for night flying that i need to put on. I will also be doing a review soon on a new camera that should be really good for day flying with some different lens options.

Not sure exactly which cam they are using but i have a rmrc 540 from readymaderc that does very well in very low light situations....comparable to this. Not night vision by any means but can handle almost complete darkness so long as i have a few specks of light on horizon for reference.

That would be cool. We are still planning to do a big night flight soon just have not had time yet. We have lights on our planes so we plan to draw a crowd.
