Birstall Church

I was invited to film Birstall Church to celebrate 50 years since the modern extension was completed.  Most shots are filmed FPV with my YQ2 quadcopter.  The internal shots were taken with my T-copter and some of these shots were visual and not FPV.  FPV flying indoors is a first for me!

Thanks to SizzleBird for allowing me to use his fantastic music: Stepping Stones https://soundcloud.com/sizzlebird/stepping-stones-free

I'm pleased you like the music, it takes a long time to find the right music for the video and then get permission to use it.

Fantastic work! What control board do you use?

Thanks. I use KK2 on my T-copter and CC3D on my quadcopter. They are both great boards, the KK2 flies well and is convenient with its LCD screen, but for pure flying performance the CC3D is excellent.

Thanks for your feedback. I looked at your Vimeo videos, your tricopter is very stable with great image quality. All the best with your FPV flying.

Great stuff as usual! You've always inspired me... as you can see from my last article, when i saw your YQ2, i had to build it!!

Hello John, thanks for your kind words, I'm really pleased you have built my quad design with some adaptions, how rigid is the frame all in wood? Wood is a lot easier to work with than the fibreglass sheet.

My frame is Rock Solid. I used a half of tube of epoxy (overkill) to connect the arms, top plate and side pieces. I connected the arms to each other with a lap joint in the middle (I wanted rigidness more than portability) and used epoxy as well. There is no flex laterally and the arms do not twist at all (on my last scratch build quad 450mm size, the arms would twist a lot, killing yaw authority, so I've learned my lessons to build it as rigid as possible.
I use only wood and plastic, some Carbon fiber, because it's easy to cut with a knife and Dremel...

Amazing video, and nice flying! Just a few questions, did you use any stabilizers in something like after effects? Also, was some of the video slowed down? Thanks, new to videos on multirotors, just trying to learn some of the tricks of the trade.

Hello RoboticsGuy. I never apply any post production stabilization, video that has been 'stabilised' can look unnatural. it is best to get the machine to fly as smoothly as possible by design and PID setting adjustment. I record everything at 1080 60 frames per second, this gives the option of slowing down actual speed by up to 50% without much loss of quality. The scenes at 0.44, 1.10, 1.54 and 2.53 are all slowed down (mainly to fit the flow of the music). Nothing in this video is speeded up. If you have a GoPro 2 then use 720 at 60 frames per second, 1080 30 FPS looks really bad with anything but the slowest panning. I hope this helps.

I forgot to mention, YouTube compression has got much worse recently, my best advice is to use H.264 and output the finished video at 30kbps (matches 1080 60 GoPro raw video). This high data rate preserves as much of the quality as possible before YouTube converts it.

Lovely video and music. I see there is a Commonwealth War Grave of a Victoria Cross winner in the first few frames, a rare find.

Hello Christian, I'm pleased your quad flies well. Is it exactly the same specification as my design on Flitetest? Not flying much at the moment, very stormy and wet winter here in the UK.
