EDF POWERPOD!

The last month I build a Lippisch P13a in FT forum challenge 2018, which is a German fighter jet concept. I wanted to include a edf unit, but Flite Test has not released an official EDF powerpod, so I had to design one myself. It still had no successful flight jet, but on the forums is a test flight which was really funny.

To build the powerpod you just need an EDF, plywood, skewers, posterboard, foamboard, rubber bands and two hooks.

I used the FMS 50mm 11blade EDF, it was the biggest I could fit in there. I made no plans because every EDF is different.

First I cut out circles out of plywood which should fit on the outside of the edf and be 4mm thick, the thickness of foamboard. I used sandpaper to make them fit perfectly. I added a short thrust tube at the back. Then I added two skewers to the bottom. Then I placed the powerpod where it should go and removed foam to fit the wood in and hold the EDF in place. Then I made curved pieces out of foam board to hold it even better. I added hooks to hold the powerpod in place using rubber bands and a piece of posterboard. Then i installed the thrust tube in the plane, which is slightly bigger than that one on the EDF. They don't line up perfectly, so they work not as efficient as one single thrust tube.

That's a great idea, thanks for sharing. I'm guessing you could incorporate more of the thrust tube into the power pod by making the power pod longer.
