er9x Firmware Upgrade for 9X Turnigy Radio

by bmsweb | May 15, 2012 | (10) Posted in Projects

Hi guys this video is done in one hit pretty much the whole process of upgrading the Turnigy 9x to an er9x Radio. I decided not to split it up because I know I hate watching part 1, 2 and 3 videos.

This video goes for 20min but like I said this is the whole process.

Hobby King also stock a programmer board, but I got mine from ebay only because I was in a hurry to do this mod.

The board I purchased was from ebay and if you search for item 300695243866 you should find the exact one I purchased. Having said that if you search USBASP USB ISP AVR Programmer etc you should find one.

Its worth noting that while flashing my son's 9x it didn't have the battery in it. Also if you are doing changes to your TX via the PC, make sure you TX is not powered.

Yes, thanks for doing this.
I used companion9x as my EEPROM editor on a Mac which is very
similar.
The er9x open firmware is a powerful program.

Your welcome Paul, the feedback has been very positive with this tutorial which makes the pain of having videoed and editing it worth while.

I haven't tried the Mac software as I know most users are going to be PC, mind you it was all done on my awesome little 13" Macbook Pro :) Mind you I still can't believe I forgot to connect the Macbook to the AC adaptor! Would have been a bummer if the power went during the writing of the firmware!

Its a really good mod that isn't hard to do at all. I'm sure you'll like it.

Very nice, you made me hack my TGY9X, finally.. And I simply love the er9x software. I used one halve of the cable supplied with the USBasp and I could hide the connector inside the transmitter. Tanks!

I used the SmartieParts board to upgrade to ER9X, and am now switching to the OrangeRX module and RX. If there's any input to help with this switch I'm all ears. Thanks
