Everyone Crashes

The Impossible crash from 150 feet.

I was testing out some new settings in a big empty field. After updating my naza ver 1.18 to latest version everything seem fine. But gps was not holding position and I started to drift.

What! a flight controller not doing what it is supposed to do?

Who ever hear of such a thing!

This the time where you say to your yourself...I can get out of this just a sec... I got it... I got it...I got it...oh oh . No No No! I am losing it! And then you can be in big trouble! And then you get this look on your face.

NOOooo!

I always think of safety first!

That is why i don't eat my in-laws cooking.

Everyone likes to fly high...i was talking about the aircraft... I get it... it cool to see you aircraft way up there.

But sometimes the wind conditions are a lot stronger the higher up you go. So be aware they it may cause a fly away. Do you really have to fly that high up? with line of sight till you craft is just a small dot? Because you can lose orientation then you can’t tell which way it is headed and then the problems begin.

If you are filming and have fpv that is a different story you know where you (you hope) are unless you lose connection. Spotters are handy but not always around.

(I see it... It's behind that tree on the left!)

I have more fun flying when I can actually see my quad so I normally don’t really fly it higher than 30-50 feet high.

Another thing that will get you in trouble is embarrassment...

When people are watching you tend to do things like go a little more higher or faster or farther... or if you losing control of you craft you don’t bail because you don’t want to have to do the walk of shame or have people think you don’t know what you are doing.
Or have people do that “ooh nooo! aahhh! OMG!) scream.
But just say… Emergency landing coming up!  And then people will know you were expecting the craft to go down.  Then you will look like a pro!

See Perfect landing!

Another reason you crash is because you don't want to crash..Huh?

Well it's the last set of props you have and if you break them you can't fly till you order some more.

So you start to loose control instead of trying landing it or droping it you try and fly it back to you but it get futher away..Because you don't to break anything but the next thing you know it hit a tree/wall/fence/pole/ground/car/house/person or santas flying reindeer or you lost you craft $$$$.

So now it cost you more.

So always have plenty of props always have around 10-20 pairs dont wait till you last pair to order.

Have spare arms at least 2 to 4 arms.

Zip ties, extra screws, glue etc even extra frame plates if you can.

That way you not flying scared and can safely ditch if you have to.

That being said you will crash! everyone crashes but it how you do it that counts Crashing with style!

Crashing is a part of learning so if you not crashing at all you not learning something new.

In my case I decided to cut throttle for safety and I did not want to lose my quad, I could always rebuild anything that breaks. When testing new settings always be safe and do it where there is no one around or be very aware of your surroundings and remember to drop it before it gets away from you can always fix/rebuild. A fly away can injure or damage property or cost you more money buying a whole new rig. Just drop it like it's hot! Watch the video and see what happen to my quad.

Rig: Hoverthings Ht-fpv flip NTM 26-28 motors F30-A esc flashed with simmonk controller Naza with gps.

Some of you out there like my articles and my humour. This hobby is fun so I try and also my storys also fun.

I know some of you out there may not like my writing style ("What he went off topic!!" call 911!)

But i will continue to write the way i do. Who said you have to write dry topics i want you to know a little about me as we go along and share ideas. ( He is doing it again!! oh man!!)
Let me know how I am doing if I am hiting the mark or not... is by your feedback. I do tend to rant and go off topic but it's all part of the fun and part of my personality.

Ok buster your done! 1 star for you!

Hey, you hurt the dirt!
I wholly agree on your attitude to keeping a lot of spares. Also on not killing people with falling toys.

What are you talking about? Didn't you see the dirt jump in front of my quad! Yes these "falling toy drones" are gonna hurt us. By getting our hobby ban.
Especially since the papers love to sensationalize story's by using the words "toy" "drone"
"Privacy" you never hear about the guy who got hit in the head with a baseball or the kid who got crippled in a football game etc.

Hey, I really really like your articles, but they need to be edited a bit for grammar and punctuation. It's a little difficult to read as is. Maybe just have a friend take a look at it, or give it a few glance overs before submitting. For me, a friend is best because I am the worst person to edit my own writing. Good luck, and I look forward to your next article!

Nice post. Looks like you have the first 'thermalling' quad :) Those puffy white clouds... looks like a nice day to pull out a glider - NAH! let's go get the quad ... LOL. Keep having fun for all of us who live vicariously through others :)

Cheers,
J
