First Tricopter FPV - Under the trees

http://vimeo.com/73555964

Saw a beautiful FPV-video filmed from a multicopter about two years ago that changed my life. Well, it made me start thinking about attach a camera to a flying platform and try to fly it. It was something different from other multicopter videos I had seen before. This was smooth, well edited, had music and was exiting to watch. Lost the clip for some months but after a week of searching for "quadrocopter", "forest", "bridge" I found the clip again. Turned out to be a tricopter and there was a project homepage for it. rcexplorer.se . Have visited his (and this) site over and over again and want, with this video, send a big thanks to David Windestål. Tack! :-)

This is my first try flying FPV. I got a KK2.0 flight control board (thanks go to Rolf R Bakke for make this hobby so much easier) about two month ago and start building my tricopter based on "The Tricopter V2.6HV" by David. Location of flying? Same as the original, beautiful Sweden.

Music composed, produced and owned by Stereofloat. Title: Crashed

Enjoy!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: Requested info and picture.

Frame: Ice scrapers, wood and lots of zip ties

Controller: KK2.0 with 1.6FW.

Motors: SunnySky V2216-12 KV: 800 II

ESC: HobbyKing F-20A UBEC. SimonK.

FPV System: FatShark Predator V2. (600TVL, TX V3 powered directly from 4s battery. Immersion cloverleaf antennas.)

Battery: Turnigy nano-tech 4s 3300mah. Hovering time without camera and FPV system 18 minutes. (Flying from 4.20V/c to 3,65V/c)

Propellers: 9x4,7 Turnigy SF (GEMFAN)

Camera: GoPro Hero3 in standard waterproof housing on some thin foam. Camera hold in place by rubber band.

Weight: 1408g with battery, camera, housing and FPV system.

motors, ESCs, FPV system, camera

Shooting: No gimbal was used shooting the video in this article. No wind and gentle on the sticks and the tricopter is super stable with no vibrations or similar. Picked up some speed and let it float.

Post production: After selecting nice looking parts from a 8 minutes long flight warp stabiliser in AE was used for a final touch.

(Made a test flight with a crezzee Super Simple Gimbal two days ago but as a beginner I think I will stick to gimbal less flight for some time.)

wow, so no stabilization in post? amazing.

also, just wondering, what is the weight without fpv gear? (the weight at which you got 19 min)

I know that weight with GoPro and housing, but no FPV system, was 1290g. GoPro camera 76g, housing 87g. So at the 18 minutes of hovering the weight was about 1127g.

Think I have to try to get a new hovering time. Tricopter + Camera + FPV since this is what I have now.

Update: Hover time with "everything" is 12 minutes. Flying from about 4,20v to 3,65v. Stop flying then the H-King Cellmeter 6 beep at 3,65v.

Thanks! :-) Updated the post with some info.

zev - Ostrich? Don't think so. The only animals I saw that day was birds and cows. But you never know...
