Flyingwings Falcon Wing Review - Build - Flights

by iwan_canobi | July 30, 2014 | (0) Posted in Reviews

Quick review of the flyingwings.co.uk Falcon FPV Wing. A small, 1m (40") wingspan wing made from EPP. A nice little wing that is good fun, but can be tricky to fly without stabilisation.

Excuse the microphone quality, thats next on my list of things to purchase!

Available from www.flyingwings.co.uk

Setup Spec:

  • 1m (40" Wingspan)
  • EPP Foam construction.
  • Turnigy 2826-6 2200kv Motor
  • 50A HK ESC
  • 6x5E Prop
  • 2200MAh 3S Batteries (~15 minute flight times)
  • Towerpro 9G Metal Gear Servos
  • Storm OSD Flight Controller
  • Fat Shark VTx
  • FrSky X8R Receiver.
  • Gopro Hero2
  • All up weight including battery and FPV gear ~780grams.

After a few days I managed to crash it as well! Its pretty robust though so a bit of straightening and hot glue later and all is good again:

Thanks for this. Living in the UK (North York Moors), and having wind as a factor virtually always, I am VERY interested in anything that will make flying in 10-20mph wind viable. I came across this company and like the idea of buying British. I have been flying a HK Bonsai wing and even this 'toy' has given me a liking for wings. I have a HK TekSumo still in the box, so that might be next, but I am interested in the Falcon or possibly even the Venturi FPV 53" wing. I might even put an AS3X receiver on it. Any thoughts or advice ???

Hey! I think if you are looking to get something to handle the wind better then the bigger Venturi would be a better bet. This little thing is great fun and good for short blasts around, but for longer duration and better stability I think the Venturi would be a better match. With AS3X I imagine it would be very stable as well!

I would not hesitate in recommending flyingwings.co.uk as the quality was excellent, I think I maybe just expected a bit much for a wing this size to be able to cope in stronger winds.

Nice!
Have you already got any experiences with gyros or AS3X on a plane? Can you propably recommend any system?
I've been using some simple 3 axis gyro systems for 30$ but they sometimes stop working in mid air and I can't get the plane back in control ... not to comfortable ;)
