Making a Glider RC!

by Test Fly RC | December 10, 2019 | (8) Posted in Projects

At a fair this past summer, I was helping some kids make paper airplanes.  A guy at the fair gave me a foam glider. I told him I was going to make the glider RC.I used 4 servos for this glider.(they weigh about 9g each). I put 2 servos on the wing.

I cut out and used plastic from an empty laundry detergent bucket, to make the firewall and the control horns (you could probably use other kinds of plastic or wood for the firewall and control horns).

Here's the video of me making the glider Remote Controlled and FLYING IT!  (I was flying this glider with a 2s battery)

Thanks a lot! I thank it flew well with a 2s Battery. I thank it would have flown better if I used a 3s or a 4s when I flew this glider.

I have also tried to make a toy glider fly but came to the conclusion that it is to heavy to have a good flight performance.
maybe you should try it with micro electronics.
nice job.

Thanks, I think with smaller electronics it would have flown better. The setup I have on it now would probably fly really good if I used a 3s or a 4s! PS: My brother made a glider(like mine)RC; He used a 4s to fly his glider, and it flew really well and fast!

i have one of those chuck gliders and have been wanting to do this too. Your was great. I wonder if it would help to try cutting out some of the tail to put the servo more "inside". dropping the rudder altogether, and then use one servo for both ailerons. I've learned that with micros, every gram you can cut out makes a world of difference.

Yes, it would probably help to cut away some of the back of the Fuseloge and put the servos partly inside and use one servo for the alerons! My brother used only one servo for the ailrons on his glider. Here's a video of my brothers Glider he made RC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2QRfl94VHc

What motor did you use? It flew well but looked too heavy. I think 3.7 gm servos would work.

I used an 1806 2280kv brushless motor.
