Mini Tricopter Build

So the weather here has been rubbish, and I was getting fed up not being able to fly, but also wanted a way to practice my tricopter flying with the same Tx as I use for my big tri, the Turnigy 9X.

So I had the idea to try and build a mini tricopter, along the same lines as the RCExplorer.se design. I had a look about and found that a few people had attempted it, but there were no guides, so I set about trying one myself!

It flies quite well, although its very sensitive. The gains need to be really low on the KK2 for it to stop oscillating, and it NEEDS a counter rotating prop. I tried it without one and it either spins around in a circle, or if you adjust the rudder enough to stop this it sits really lop-sided.

I'm still messing with settings, but its good fun, even though it probably is still too big for use in the house, its perfect for practice in the garden!

Main Parts:

I'll be using 12mm wooden booms and fibreglass center plate, and for the servo mechanism I'll be attempting something similar to the RCExplorer style.

Nice job. Check my article on this board. Naze32 Acro | Multiboot controller - CC3D
by Trauma50 It's a 1/3 smaller and made for smaller mutlicopters.

This board lets me fly better than, I have ever been able to in the past.

Cheers! I'll check that control board out, but I wanted something to replicate my big tricopter as closely as possible, and it uses the KK2!

Might change as my tuning progresses, and if I want to lose a bit of weight! :)

how much did this mini tri cost you over all with shipping?

I think it probably came to about $120 all in, although I've spent more on replacement props since then!

I also already had the booms, fibreglass and plywood from other builds, so thats not including those parts.

How long are the booms? Great build! I think I might try a quad, H frame about this size.
