Mirage 2000 with camera

I purchased a kit on eBay for a Mirage 2000 some time back and I did not really like the foam, soft and spongy somehow. The other day I took the pieces out and used as a template for my own spin on the Mirage.

This is how it all strated, new fresh foamboard 5mm with and without paper on, some carbonfibre and electronics.

For pusher jets I have used the Turnigy D2826-6 2200KV in combination with a plush 40A many times and I am very impressed with its performance. This time I wanted to fly 4S and to get around 600W out of the setup, I went therefore with the NMT Propdrive 28-36 2700KV.

Chad explained the difference between a forum-post and an article in a recent poscast:
"an article is the end result, the finished product" ... so lets skip straight to the finished model now.

I am quite hapy with the way it came out. The black plastic thingy behind the nose is the mount for the camera. ESC placed on top, not the cleanest but I am not taking any chanses here in the heat. Flying in Dubai is hot even in the winter and without 48 Amp going thru the ESC.

Elevons made a little smaller than the "original" foam template. I think this size is perfect with 70% travel and 30% expo, it gets just as crazy as expected in high speeds.

The bottom is fully taped with clear packing tape, and approx 10cm back from the nose we can see a thin flat carbon fibre spar going thru the whole wing from side to side.

Another round carbon fibre rod is inserted in the foam from side to side approx 10cm from the trailing edge.

Simple FT-Style hatch for the battery in the nose, held in place with a bbq skewer (what else?)

Inside the hatch we have plenty of space for receiver and battery. Without the heave clumsy camera mounted, the battery goes almost all the way forward, with the camera all the way back.

Well here we are with the camera mounted. The camera mount is expected to break off on hard (any) landing.

I am not going to fly this model more than once with the camera mounted. My father Håkan has requested to get in-air fotage from a jet once more, so this setup is for him.

I have flewn a few more times after this video was shot without the camera, and I am really happy with this little jet, it looks very nice in the air and as expected has plenty of power.
