My first tricopter - the Mk 1

by MarkGlover | April 7, 2013 | (0) Posted in Projects

So this is my first post and multirotor build, I decided to make a simple tricopter and this is my progress so far. its made from 3 500ml sections of square dowel and 1 round sheet of aluminium that holds them all together. It was pretty much built from parts that I had lying around at home. At this stage I am not sure what electronics to use on it so any advice would be much appreciated :)

Below are picture of the build so far:

Above is the the frame at its current stage

Above is a close up of how I have mounted the beams

UPDATE:

I worked out a system to tilt the tair motor

Looks like an nice idea to combine wood with aluminium for the frame. I'm not sure about your dimensions, but with an arm length near 50 cm (from center to motorshaft) and a weight less then 700 grams you can use electronics similar to David's tricopter: http://flitetest.com/articles/The_Tricopter_V2_5_build

A great tool for calculating flight time, battery use and thrust, is http://www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.htm.

If you make a setup like the one from David, use this link and click on calculate to see what is should bring you: http://www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.htm?ecalc&lang=en&cooling=2.5&rotornumber=3&weight=700&calc=auw&elevation=500&airtemp=25&qnh=1013&batteries=lipo_2500mah_-_35/50c&chargestate=0&s=3&p=1&esc=max_20a&motor=turnigy&type=35|d2836-11&gear=1&propeller=apc_slowfly_sf&diameter=10&pitch=4.7&blades=2

I would reccomend taking a look at Davids tricopter you can look in the store and look at his tricopter frame he has a build log to his the electronics he uses are good might take a look at this motor to has a great deal of thrust but needs a much higher rated Eec just depends on your budget for the project and overall weight
