Versa Wing
Material: Depron 5mm
             Packing tape
             Hot Glue
             Black contact paper (Falcon tattoo)
             2 x 9g servos
             Umbrella rib for pushrod

Weight:   330g (whitout motor, esc and lipo)
500g (with 2200 lipo, without motor and esc)

              so approx 700g RTF.

Now I'm in doubt which combination of motor and prop to use:

Turnigy 2826/6 2200KV  with 6x4 prop  (already have)
Emax  2822     1200KV  with 8x4 or 9x4.7 prop  (already have)
Emax  2812     1534KV  with 7x6 prop     (need to buy combo)
NTM 2836        2700KV  with 6x4 prop   (need to buy motor)

Any suggestions? Other motors? Other combinations?

Maiden this weekend with Turnigy 2826/6 2200KVm 6x4 prop and 2200 3s Lipo + 1300 3s lipo for leds and CG. First flight it was a litlle unstable (CG still back). At top speed she went down real fast.

Second flight with 3 batteries all away to the front! 2200 (for flight)+ 1300 + 380. More up deflection on ailerons for straight flight at top speed. And it flew much, much better with a great, great glide distance. It´s even hard to land or going down because she glides endlessly. Still need a little extra weight to the front for my taste.
Just a great wing!

OH MY GOODNESS! AWESOME!... I wanted to do this to my Versa (when I get around to building it), but I was not sure if it would turn out like I wanted. You proved to me it will. Love the lights and decals... Great job!

Wow that looks amazing!
I am planning to build a blunt nose versa wing soon and I would love to do something similar to this. I have ordered 2 50 cm RGB lights strips from Hobby king. I am just wondering about the placement of the strips. If you could summarize how you installed the lights in your wing I would really appreciate it.

Thank you Paul.

I glue the led stripes in the left and right wing spars, blue leds facing front side, and white leds to rear. You have to do that before closing the wings. I left enought wire on bought sides do join them in central portion of the Versa wing and put a connector.

Lately I had a extra red led in central part. I think if you watch closely last picture you can figured it out. But if you want I can send a picture interior.
Hope I as able to explain it cleary.

I like this idea... Run your Hobby King RGB strips in the front edge, then run plain white in the trailing edge. You can get a 16ft/5m strip of 300 white leds for $4 including shipping on ebay. For $4 you will have leds for your next couple projects too.

Next one I will stay with white leds at back, and white and red at front. Blue right side and red left side.
I´ve buy at ebay too 3528 leds.

Hope to see you project.

I think your CG problem could be helped if your motor was about an inch or so more to the front. There is a lot of distance between the prop and the trailing edge of the wing that could be closed.

BTW, Wing looks fantastic! I am building one now and almost put all white lights. I love the look of combining colored and white. Great idea! Will now do mine the same.

Wondering how many mah the lights use and if I really need a second battery for them.

I'll be using a SunnySky X2212 1400kv motor with an 8x4 prop, 30 amp esc, 2200mah battery.

Thank you Robert. For shure if motor goes further front, I will get better CG.But wing looks better with motor line up with edge.

LED Watts - Found the answer I think.
My led stripes use 4.8 watts per meter and this layout uses about 2 meters / 10 watts.
Depending on the motor, prop size, ESC etc, the normal flying watts is about 150watts plus the receiver and servos (just a few watts). So, putting LEDs in the Versa wing like this adds about less than a 10% more load or reduction in flying time (from my calculations). Adding an extra battery makes sense if the weight is really needed for CG balancing but the flying time will still be reduced unless both batteries are connected in parallel to the ESC.
