My viggen build

Well after watching the review and reading the build log I had to have a go at this. Now I didnt use a 70mm edf(shoulda) I used left overs from crashed edf's really wasn't sure if I could build it so it would fly straight.

Foam choices here in Australia really not the best I ducked into Bunings and bought a pack of under floor insulation foam about 50dollars . I worked out I can build 3 viggens out of it its ridged onough light enough but has some flex as well.

the first hotwire cutter was to powerful car battery to hot........

rewatched the build and did as David suggested found a brushed esc ran it of servo tester and just enough heat and took my time took about 20hours this week and my wife really had enough of me lol

Wings had to made out of Plastic fluted card Australia really has not much to choose from wings alone came to 400gram I might try some other products yet

Maiden video this weekend no wind lovely afternoon soz the video glasses a bit glitchy will change the settings for latter releases

Well was impressed with flight went home and removed 64mm edf upgraded to chase power edf 10blade removed extra wing on top and used carbon spar and added paint still waiting on wind to go awayto remaiden

wanted that dog fight distressed look

Looks great! It also looks like you used an acetone-based spray paint directly on the foam. Try a coat of water-based poly urethane(WBPU) before you use the paint. It will prevent this. You can repair that damage with some lightweight spackle, baby powder, and WBPU in a 1:1:1 ratio. It will create a paste that will harden quite well but is easily sanded back. Its also lightweight.

You have done a great job. Looks like you used a blow torch on it...
Seems to fly really well. Have got the plans myself, never thought of going to Bunnings for foam.
Was it a lot of work cutting templates and foam?
thks

well done mate, I've been itching to have a go at this one but i have been trying to find some foam suitable! I did not want to use polystyrene foam because it is a bit too flexible. I was trying to find out what the name of the foam that David used is (NOT JUST THE TRADE NAME) and see if I can order some here in Australia. wings I can make from Foamboard like David did (I can buy it from my local hobby shop). I have made plenty of wings out of Pollystyrene that work well, I stiffen them with carbon fiber tubes and then cover them with plastic self adhesive book covering.(contact film). I may make the wings for the Viggen like this as I can then give them some shape but I still want to find some better foam for the fuse. great effort mate and good to get some tips on the power system required!
