Congratulations Flite Test on the article in AMA's Model Aviation!  This issue's focus is on building and builders, the author seems quite impressed with the build tents at Flite Fest.

I spoke with the author of this article on-site a couple of times. He was genuinely impressed by what he saw. I don't think he had any idea that FT and this community was so strong. The thing he kept saying was how impressed he was with the participation of young people.

Those of us who worked the registration tent saw several families who came to FTFF simply because one of their young kids was excited about it. For an entire family to drive, in some cases, a significant distance to support their kid's interest was really moving.

I miss Flite Fest. This first one was a once-in-a-lifetime type event, I think. It will be amazing next year (and the next) but, this first one was very, very special. I'm thankful to have been there to experience it with all the others.

That's the spirit I picked up in the article, he was truly impressed to see the kids so involved and building. I wanted to go for the first one, work got in the way. Planning to attend next year's FTFF.

I have been in the hobby for about 35 years and I really do think that it is great to have such a great cheep way to go with all of this. I have been telling every body that I talk to about FT. I know that I have got some going that way.

Nice article by Mark! I just joined the AMA for the first time so the October issue of Model Aviation was my first after joining. To be honest, Mark's article was the one of the few that interested me. Being newer to the hobby I fly all electric ARF foam planes, or now FliteTest foam-board built ones. I will never fly gas, stick build a model, nor worry much about scale, and I have no plans to buy a radio or plane that costs much over $100 . I just want to fly, and fly cheap.

I'm almost 60, but maybe I'm part of the new generation of flyers?

I'm new-again 30+ year hiatus, balsa builds and crashes broke my heart and bank. I found FT a few years ago and fell in love with the hobby all over again. No longer fear the crashes since it's only a couple bucks in foam and time building is relaxing but not as time consuming. Thanks for commenting! Sr12

By the way, I really like the looks of the Fokker biplanes the McQuiston's are showing off. Anyone have any info on those? Plans?

Great to have this exposure and good job Flite Test!!

But I find it disturbing to think that you are so supportive of the AMA, yet after a few years since you started your district rep did not know about you until "...an outsider to our hobby..." told him about it. As he stated, you have a worldwide following, are within his district, and he didn't know about you?

All of us who follow you are the future of this hobby and maybe the AMA needs to keep up. I love the AMA, I am a member, and respect what they are doing for us but hope that future leadership keeps up with the times. I enjoy building with foam but I also enjoy the old methods with balsa and tissue paper. I don't see the new generation of modelers as different, I see them using a different build technique that makes this hobby more affordable. I can't spend the money on heat guns, sealing irons, the expensive covering films, specialty tools etc on every plane. The foam allows me to have more planes and more fun! Hot glue and foam makes it easy.

I am surely glad you guys are getting the recognition however and hope to enjoy your efforts, and eventually be able to take part in them, for years to come. Good job!!
