Putting things together

We usually spend a lot of time gluing things together. Some of the most common ways of gluing/putting things together are: Soldering, Using epoxy, Hot glue, Duct tape, zipties, and using super glue. These methods can put a lot of weight to our planes. So here are a few tips for reducing weight and which of the above methods we should use.

Soldering: we solder wires together, which is very helpful. this method is strong, lite and durable. but tooo much solder can be a waste, and, most importantly, increase weight. So we should be careful of how much solder we put. ( dont forget to put heatshrink after soldering)

Epoxy: using epoxy is very helpful. it bonds almost anything rock hard. But while joining, e.g you want to stick the motor mount of the bixler 2. you would mix both the epoxy resin and epoxy hardener in a small dish, and apply wherever you want to put it. But make sure you dont throw away the dish in which you mixed the epoxy, because when you let it dry overnight. the motor mount will be stuck, and you can get to know how strong it is by looking at the small dish which had the epoxy in it.

Hot glue:  whenever you use hot glue, mak sure you rub off excess glue, and then apply it back to the same place without depositing too much. This is very heavy, but fairly strong, and also dries fast. So when youre at the airfield, if you have a hot glue gun, and e.g. your wings have come off, you put some glue back there , and you will be flying in no time. be careful not to remove excess glue with your hand, or while the glue is drying, you will burn your hand.

Duct tape:no wonder duct tape is extremely strong, it puts on a lot of weight. i usually while using this cut it lengthwise and then use it. this is very help ful, and doesnt use a lot of vertical strips. use it for making polyhedrals and making power pods.

Zipties: zipties are wonderful. whether putting on landing gear, or mounting your fpv camera, it is useful and strong. i just found out a method for taking out zipties when you lock them. simply pull back on the zip, and you will see a small ratchet mechanism on the cable. hold back the rachet gear rack, and pull. You have a completely new cable tie!!!
