Quick test small-mid size airplane glow engine

This is an easy way to keep your small-mid size glow engine engine collection in top shape.

A wee bit of fuel drop in the carburetor, and flick. Don't use any electric starter, too much fuel drop will easily hydrolock your engine. I find that a good engine will start with hand flick. A few drop will last a couple of second of run. If you feel the engine is hot while in test, a quick WOT will shut the engine off.

In this video, i'm testing my ASP15A, OS40LA, vintage G-Mark 061, OS Max 25 FSR.

Safety first..! This method is only for experienced modellers, always wear gloves and always keep fire extinguisher close if you dealing with fuel.

Experienced or not, you should use an engine test stand that is bolted down when testing engines. The best tip I know of to keep your engines in top shape is to add a couple drops of after-run oil into the carb and flip the prop thru a couple times to lube the engine after each flying session or when storing. I have used automatic transmission fluid in the past but now use Marvelous Mystery Oil. A chicken stick, short piece of garden hose, isn't a bad idea either. Check with the four fingered guy at your local club to confirm.

i mostly flying with F2C guys at my flying field. any engine techniques i got is learned from F2C people..

You know, I like the reference to the" four fingered guy". I think starting an engine has as much to do with finesse and coordination as any thing . I read where these things are monsters and junk and what ever else there is .Must be an anti feuler group for the electric bounce.I've been at it for close to 40 years, been slapped at few times,but have never lost any fingers yet. Fact is ,if you cruise the net, there seems to be a growing number of some pretty good cuts.from the "quiet ones". Must never drop your guard or you be sorry.I still love all the stuff that"l get my plane up, even rubber. Merry Christmas everyone.

Hi People; As I set here and read the post's I think backwards. You know if the pilots would take this sport serious we would not have hardly any problems.By that I mean, when you pick up your transmitter, you don a new life. You are responsible for takes place, just like real life. This sport is fun but, since I've tried to assume the part of a real life pilot I've not had even one problem. By this I mean , a lot of people don't become pilots,they just want to fly. No check lists , takes too much time.. If you flew a real plane this way , chances are you'd be dead already. This is real part of our hobby.You can bet one thing, 3D people don't operate this loose, it'll cost them . Think about this and have fun
