RC Ground Effect Vehicle

Lately we have been having trouble thinking of what to build next. Then we thought back to when we were in school and we remembered in engineeering class we built what our teacher called a skimmer. We would attach them to rubberbands then launch them and see who's could go the farthest! So what we did was build the same thing but bigger, and we put electronics on it!

This was designed after the PLTW - Paper Skimmer. It measures in at 60in long and 20in wide. We are running a 1100Kv Turnigy motor with a 10x6 prop. For the ESC we are using a Turnigy 40Amp. For the battery we are using a Nano-Tech 1300Mah 3s.

If you are going to build this on the same scale we would recommend using bigger servos. Also we would recommend buying waterproof foam so if you go through grass with dew it won't bow your foam like it did to ours. Make sure you put tape on the bottom where it will be touching the ground. You could even put metal poles on the bottom to ensure the bottom won't break.

You can make this out of any foam like Dollar Tree, depron, or even insulation foam. Make sure you put a brace between the rudders if you are going to be using depron or Dollar Tree foam.In the front you have to cut it so it has a curve if you want to go through the grass.

For the best preformance you should angle your motor up slightly.

The things I would do the same are the motor being angled up slightly, the size and design, the same battery, and the front being curved. The things I would do differently would be the foam should be waterproofed, you should use fibre tape instead of packaging tape, It would be better if you used 32 gram servos instead of 9 gram, and the steering could be improved by using thrust vectoring. If you are going to build this give yourself about an hour. Hope you enjoyed this article! If you have any questions just comment down below, dont forget to Subscribe!
