RMRC Recruit - $84 Stealth Wing!

There's a new flying wing in town, and it's got some rather impressive features tucked up its airfoils. This is the Ready Made RC Recruit, a gyro stabilised wing. It goes together in moments, has removable wings and comes with some quality electronics. If you're new to wings, or just want something super simple and durable to zip around with, this might be the airplane you need.

Here are Josh and Stefan's impressions of the $84 Recruit

So what is this machine made from? EPP foam is the primary airframe material. This provides a resilient surface that can shake off a hit without deforming. As mentioned, the wings detach easily as well as the winglets. This makes the airframe the perfect travel companion should you decide to take it on an FPV adventure.

Under the hood of the Recruit, there's plenty of room for a 3s 2200-2400mAh battery of your choice. The included gyro is also found here. This module has two flight modes which are 3D and stabilized meaning you can switch it to suit what style of flying you feel like doing when out at the field, hillside or mountain pass.

Up front, there's room for a GoPro (or similar camera) in the centre pod. This is protected by a foam 'doughnut' (that's the best way I can think of describing it!) that magnetically connects to the nose. Moulded into the wing, there's a mount for a Runcam HD or similar camera.

Specification

If you'd like to see more of the numbers, here are some.

  • Wingspan: 900mm
  • Length: 482mm
  • Foam: EPP
  • Motor: 2204 2300kv
  • Propeller: 6x3
  • ESC: 30A with 5v/1A BEC, XT60
  • HD Camera Options:
    • GoPro Session 4/5
    • Runcam HD 1/2/3
    • Yi-Cam
    • GoPro Hero 4 (5 can fit with modification)
    • Foxeer Legend

So, with all the gear included, an easy assembly and convenient form factor, I'd say this wing is for someone who wants a reliable and robust FPV platform. Quite simply, it has all the right stuff to tick those low maintenance, low hassle and high levels of fun boxes. It's also for someone who doesn't want to break the bank at just $84.99.

If you decide to pick one of these up, make sure to share your experience of the RMRC Recruit!

Just a bit of constructive criticism....at the time this article was published, the FT Store and RMRC were out of stock on the Recruit wing. It's a bit of a buzz-kill to anyone who was on the fence to purchase and this article was the deciding factor. I would imagine these types of articles drive sales in a big way, so please check stocks and maybe hold the article if stock is down or out. Thanks for all you do! This is offered in a loving spirit to hopefully help out beloved FT crew.

The RMRC Recruit and the Sonic Modell AR.Wing appear to be the same basic vehicle. The ESCs are different; the motor and servos appear to be the same. Decals are different of course. I have both versions but have yet to fly them.
