The B-L55 Boxy Bomber

Hi my name is Alec, and this is my first ever scratch built plane.

I wanted to make a FPV bomber, just like James Whomsley's FPV bomber (mines is just a whole lot more boxy). I wanted it to have two motors and an oval tail. I also wanted it to be able to carry a GoPro or my run cam split kit. This was my first plane ever made without main instructions.

First things first, I wanted to see if I was able to set up two motors and a few YouTube videos later I got it to work. For some reason the Spectrum receiver wasn't working so I settled on an orange receiver instead. Then I built the fuselage 5 inches by 4 inches.

After that I reinforced the outside with tape and the inside with foam triangles.

After that I cut out the bomb drop, and made a nose cone for the front of the plane but it was to big and after all that work I had to make it again. So next time you build something measure twice and cut once.

Now I made a fitting nosecone and used barbecue skewers to fasten them in. I used a triangle for the horizontal stabilizer, and used a protractor to make ovals for the horizontal stabilizers.

Next I made the engine pods. I measured the firewall and put together and made two identical pods. I also made the front windscreen with spare parts. My dad sodered the Y adapter for the battery and he accidentally switched the polarity and shorted out the battery.  Everything was fine and it just shows that you want to always double check everything.

I was afraid to do the wings because they are the biggest and most complicated thing. I used the simple cub wing plans and extended them six inches. I also put a wooden spar inside and installed the servos.

I installed the landing gear and the engine mounts and made the wings detachable. I also made a cocpit for my brothers and my stick bots witch are like little people.

Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the flight video!!!

Nice job! It looks like a great plane, best of luck with the first flight. I wish I still had my FPV bomber!

Wow, I can't believe that's your first plane. It looks fantastic. I love your cockpit and the grid work on the outside of it, simply awesome. Those sticks in between the seats are a great touch. You might want to check the wire gauge on the Y connector. It looks a bit on the thin side. Good luck with the maiden.
