Wide Angle Lens Modification for Hubsan X4 H107D

The Hubsan X4 H107D FPV Quadcopter is a fantastic multicopter for learning to fly.  It is extremely stable.  It can do some basic maneuvers.  It can really take a beating without significant damage (don't ask how I know this...)!    However, one area this specific copter is lacking is in the FPV experience.  The major issue everyone complains about is with the too narrow field of view from the camera.  The view is so narrow that the pilot struggles to get spacial awareness from the video feed viewed on the transmitter screen.  The purpose of this article is to provide another alternative method to enhancing the field of view by modifying the image sensor lens.

Many people have posted threads and videos about how they have modified this quad's image sensor lens so that it works better.  The great part about all of these solutions the the issue is that everyone who successfully completes the mod states that flying FPV is an entirely different and ultimately much more enjoyable (and reasonable) experience.

I have researched many of the different methods and have struggled to find any method that I felt was a truly complete modification that would not cause a limitation later on down the line.  Because of this I decided to see what I could come with.  I decided that working with the lens from a Keychain cam (model 808 #16v2) D lens would be the best part to start with.  Other's have done this mod with this part; however, the techniques for mounting the lens appeared to be quite difficult to complete, were not surefire, and would cause difficulty down the line when trying to replace damaged frame halves because of a lack of servicibility of the lens and how it was mounted.

I ordered in the lens assembly from a seller on eBay.  I paid around $12 USD shipped to me from a seller here in the US.  Watch the following two videos to see what mounting technique I discovered.  I feel this style of "hack" is something that is factory-quality and 1) requires minimal skills, 2)provides excellent function and adjustability, and 3) is serviceable since the lense can be unthreaded from the mount during dissasembly and then reinstalled just as quickly during reassembly.  As well, doing the modification this way added very little weight to the copter and it keeps the lens perfectly square for proper image focus.

If anyone else has done this mod the same way, I give credit to you as well!  Please feel free to offer up any improvements or alternatives to make this idea even better.  Everything can always be improved!
