Introducing the Ycopter 350 FPV Quadcopter.

After years of design and development I have produced my first frame which is available as a kit. 

The Ycopter 350 is a mid sized quadcopter (350mm square), large enough to carry a GoPro in its protective case but small enough to allow agile flight.  

The principal citeria for all of my designs is the most stable and smoothest 'prop free' video possible.  

Smooth video is achieved by a full floating top plate which holds the battery, control board and camera gear, this is mounted by six vibration isolation rings to the lower frame.  The electronic components are perfectly matched to ensure the quadcopter is stable and controllable at all power levels.  The frame is light and rigid which allows the use of higher power set-ups.

Another key design consideration is its ability to be easily repaired from locally sourced materials.  The vibration rings and motor arms can be replaced by using locally sourced materials.

The balance can be easily adjusted by moving the flight battery forwards or backwards which allows a wide range of battery sizes and payloads.  The battery is very easy to access and change between flights.

The top plate is pre drilled for the common hole spacing of boards such as the KK2.0, Naze32 and CC3D.

The ESCs are protected in the inner frame which reduces external wiring giving a very clean look.

Nice video, and maybe a good product.
The video shows only what you can do with it, how you fly. Not how it is designed, what advantages it has compared to others.
I actually had to study the pictures a second time, to figure out that it is a 3 plate sandwich where the rubber dampeners actually connects the top and bottom layer without touching the middle layer...
As a sales video, it is not good. 1 out of 5.
As a just fun video 4 out of 5
Thats a honest opinion.

I would love to se some more details.

Hi Rene', thanks for leaving such constructive feedback. The benefits are included in the video but I deliberately left out design details in the hope that people would visit www.ycopter.co.uk to find out more. Seems like I should have included more in the video...What details / specifications would interest you most?

I might have been a bit to... harsh.
I actually tryed to acces the homepage yesterday, with no luck at all. I do not know if it is a local problem here.
But, yes, the shoot is jellow free, at seems smooth, i do aggre to that, but i also see that in all your other shoots, you are a sort of hero for me, you do fly very well, you also made some amazing how to videos on how you got your stuff to perform at it's best.
I guess i was a little bit dissapointed after seeing the clip, since i could not get any info on how you obtained the result.
It just left me in a... vaccum.
Hope you understand.
An now the page is loading.

Hi Rene, pleased the website is now working for you. You were complimentary about my flying skills, the truth is that any well designed and set up multi-rotor is easy to fly! But your initial feedback got me thinking about the differences between my designs and others. The main differences can be summarised as follows:

A sub-frame that is torsionally rigid providing maximum support for the motors. The motors are held firmly in place and thrust is immediately translated into control. Motors are also resistant to oscillation at higher power.

The wooden motor arms simply plug into the frame and motor mounts using compression joints. This means that the motor arms can be easily and cheaply replaced with stock 12mm (half inch) square wood section.

The camera is isolated from the lower frame by my custom vibration isolation mounts. They span the height of the lower frame making the frame depth only 25mm (less lateral air resistance). They are supported by the edge of the lower frame meaning better control of longitudinal and lateral movement of the camera plate.

Vibration is isolated so well that there is no need to use exotic or expensive motors.

The centre of gravity and geometry of the frame is optimised; most of the mass is in the centre of the frame.

It is designed to use a GoPro in its protective case, this also allows adjustable camera angle to get the best forward view possible (or look down view if you like).

The electronics have been selected to perfectly match the airframe geometry and mass. If the recommended parts are used then flight performance is guaranteed by using my provided PID / control board settings.

I hope this has filled in some of the gaps. Good luck with your future projects...

I would just like to say that I have recently built this frame and the thing that sets it apart from the rest is that it gives incredibly smooth almost gimbal like video footage. The added bonus is that it runs on really cheap electronics and motors. No need for fancy Tiger motors to get these kind of results https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_nGJwLMFNQ
