The following videos are my journey building a 250 size racer quadcopter on a budget. I wanted to see if I like the 250 size quads before fully investing in more expensive parts.

Breakdown of parts and cost (just to build the basic quadcopter not including radio and batteries):

  • Frame: ZMR250 Fiberglass Quadcopter Frame: $20
  • Motors: ZMR 1804-2400kv: $10 each
  • ESCs: EMAX Simon Series ESC: $12 each
  • Flight controller: KK2 - $30
  • Props: 5030 Gemfan: $5
  • FPV Camera: Sony CCD: $18
  • Transmitter: 200mw mini transmitter: $32

So far I am really liking this quadcopter, it's loads of fun.

Great review... I have been considering this exact frame and motors, so this was VERY helpful!

I have these Motors on my QAV250, pretty much the same set-up. using a flip 1.5 instead of a KK2. Mine flys the same on a 2200MAH, I use nanotech 1300's for great performance 45C. and cruising/footage im using a zippy compact 1800MAH 25C, onlyt weighs 15 grams more than the 1300MAH.

Be aware that if you purchase this frame, the fiberglass is VERY cheap. I bought this quad, hit a tree, fell from about 6 feet and broke an arm. The fiberglass that is used in the arms is very weak. I have heard much better things about the carbon fiber version. Good luck in your flying!
