Hello everyone,
This is my first post here on flitetest and my reason for posting os becuase I was so impressed with the FT Racer build that I decided to build one myself... two of them to be exact. The first I built as per the plans, after flying it (which I must say that thing flies incredible) I decided to build a second with my own modifications. I have built the Versa Wing as well and also made my own mods to that as well, but that's for another time.
First thing I did was decided to go with a 20% larger plane. I also had a 910k motor laying around that I was going to use with a 4500mAh 4S battery and an extra bec that I also had. So after modifying my plans I ended up with a plane that has about a 49.5" winfspan!
As you can see I created my pod as per p,ans, with a slight mod and I use epxoy to secure the firewall. I have done it on all my scratchbuilds and it has never failed me. I also don't do the swapable thing, my pods are more permanent, for structral integrity. I use foamboard guides to keep the battery in place along with velcro and towards the end of the build the battery will also rest on the top of the wing to keep everything snug.

As you can see, the fuse is a bit larger than the original plans. What I did was careful fuse together two pieces of foam board which I later reinforce towards the end of the build. I also added a half cirlce design under the nose area, which closes the front battery opening a bit and gives the sides a little more to grab on to. I scored the half circle so that I could bend it along with the curves of the sides.

Here she is coming a little closer to completion. I had a white spinner that I wasn't using that I also threw on, what the heck why not!

In this picture below you can see the batter resting nicely on the wing, with a small foam board spacer that I put in to keep things snug.

Another addition to my build, I used a piece of microlite that I had laying around to reinforce and protect the underside of the place on belly landings. Being that this is a larger plane with more mass it will be landing with a but more speed and weight behind it. I added a small piece to the rear as well to reinforce the fused area.

Fused foam boards. Reinforced on the inside as well.

Closer view of the half circle under the nose.

I added two protective strips along the bottom of the wings to protect the servo and horn just in case the wings touch the ground when landing.

I increased the aileron size by an inch.

So far that is what I have, I will post more updates soon. I am considering adding some landing gear but I am not sure the frame can take it.
Here it is somewhat completed.
