To the FliteTest Community:

The idea was brought to the table to create an aircraft that had infused a 350 size quadcopter in the body of a plane. 7th grade student Ashton Lyon jumped all over it.  Spending some time over spring break designing the scratch build on CAD.  See the pic below to see what he came up with:

Ashton choose the F-22 Raptor to infuse the 350 size quad.  As you can see he started off by drawing the top view of the Raptor surrounding the dimension of the quad that will be placed in the middle of the craft.  Once both the quad and top view was drawn, he then decided to where the quad will lay within the plane.  Ideally he wanted to place it in a position where the plane would be balanced at the intersection point of the motors.  After this step he then created sections to be laser cut.  He used an insulation pink foam purchased from Home Depot, about 3/4" thick and was perfect for this application.  See picture below prior to placing all the equipment on the craft.

The next step was creating a platform to house the motors, a simple X formation with 1/2" booms with some aluminum joints did the trick, he then placed the X bracket under the copter, placing another 3/16 foam X bottom piece under it.  He used all materials and equipment donated from Quadlugs.com. When the Quadraptor was completed it turned out great with the traditional F-22 Raptor painting, and it flew as great as it looked.

The Quadraptor is proving to be a great tool for Ashton to learn orientation when flying a quadcopter.  One of the hardest tricks to flying a multirotor is flying it while turning in a circle, using the rudder in conjuction with your pitch and roll controls, this plane is allowing him to learn this.  Plus it looks cool too!

Below is the equipment used on the aircraft:

Here is the PDF plans for Ashton builds, have fun downloading and creating, and as always share your pics with the MESArcFF team: http://www.mesarcfoamfighters.com/#!plane-plans/ccb
