808 #16 V2 Lens D vs GoPro

by ProjectFlightDesign | May 23, 2013 | (8) Posted in Reviews

Quick comparison between my GoPro and the 808 #16 V2 HD Keychain Camera with Lens D, which records 720p at 30fps. Overall, not bad for such a cheap, lightweight camera. Very good potential for filming onboard lightweight RC models.

I got this camera from Ebay, from seller: digitaleleonline-caipeng

Great video! I am thinking of purchasing some kind of mini HD camera and the best one i've come up with yet is the HK hd wing camera. I feel its quality rivals that of the 808, has a longer battery life, better field of view with a simple lens upgrade, better quality, can potentially use it for FPV in the future and you can get rid of that damn timestamp with no risk of damaging the device. Have you used the HK hd wing camera at all and if so how do you think it compares to the 808 camera.

Nice comparison. What I miss, however is a bit about compression of the video quality.
I have the 808 #16 v1, with the regular lens, so that might explain the difference, but mine has terrible compression on the video.
It might be 720p, but the image resolution suffers greatly and you notice the .jpg style compression blocks instantly.

Absolutely - the overall image quality is definitely worse

Great comparison video, thank you. I've got exactly the same two cameras as you have. I bought the GoPro Hero, and four days later they released the GoPro Hero 2.......
Cheers,
Trevor

I have to comment on the fact that when you do a comparison other aspects have to come into play right from the word go. The big one that Isis missing here is the cost, I bought 2 or 3 of the 808 cameras with standard lens and with memory cards for less than $10 each including shipping and cards. Last weekend I happened to park one of my planes at the to of a 40 foot gum tree with a camera on board. After hours of throwing baseballs at the plane we gave up around 9pm and went home quite resound in the the fact that I had lost the plane. The camera wasn't even an issue that I thought of. If I had had a GoPro on board I would have rung the fire brigade to let them know about the small child stuck I the tree! Consequences would have come later!
A great side note to this little store is that VERY early the next morning my son and I went down to throw some more baseballs at the plane and low and behold it had been blown out of the tree through the night and a security guard, doing his rounds of sporting facilities had found it and put it under the verandah safe for me to get back the next day.
Great ending but probably not the same as if I had a GoPro on it!
I love what I see from the GoPro, please don't get me wrong and when I save enough maybe I will buy one but there is always a case of horses for courses!

I like the key chain camera because I am cheap and the only big difference is a tad orange on the video so I would rather have a tad orange in my video than pay 200-350$ on a gopro

I understand! Totally a judgement call - but I am addicted to my gopro....

Cool, thanks for the video. I have the GoPro Hero and the GoPro Black, but would like to find something for those small planes, like my HK Bonsai.

Its perfect on small planes that otherwise can't handle a larger HD camera
