My build of Josh Bixler's Nutball (measurements inluded) With Video

Recently, my father-in-law crashed his slow stick. I wanted something he could build, grow into, and move up with. So I decided to build the nutball, Josh Bixler style, so here it is.

We didn't have a compiled list of measurements to go off of with Josh's plan, so I printed it out, did some math, and I think I got close. Now keep in mind that these measurements are just approximations, so you can be a little liberal on the exact dimensions.

I wanted to use the Scotch Extreme packing tape that Josh so often talks about, and finally found it in my town at Staples. Just as a piece of info for ya.

I have yet to fly it, so as soon as I do, I will update. The rudder shown in the picture is about an inch short of what it was supposed to be, so I will be redoing that as well. Otherwise, it looks good and should be a fun one.

The wings I would like to interchange on this one is a 3D wing, a sport trainer wing, and possibly a pusher jet (turning th prop around and swapping the motor wires). We will see what I come up with on it.

Update: 6/11/12

Added electronics, landing gear, and extended the rudder.  Still needs push rods, a tail skid, and some color.

HK $0.99 landing struts, and 5 spoke 60mm wheels.

A piece of light plywood and six screws and its good to go.  I hot glued the plywood down, drilled the holes and screwed it all together with self tapping screws.

The gear sweeps forward a bit more than I thought it would.  I'm thinking I could have mounted the gear further back.  With a 450 mah 2s in the nose of the plane, it balances perfectly on a 5 inch cg.  I may have to put my 950 up front to get it to balance as needed.  I'll update it once I've flown it.

Cheap too, thanks to Hobby King!

Flew it twice yesterday, what a fun little plane to fly. You can keep it just a few inches off the ground and just walk it around the feild. Love it!

How do I print the plans when I try to it prints it on one page which is small. And when I go to print it the line are very faded and like a bunch of little dots. It looks like that on the computer also.

Here is the link to the pdf tiled plans. I found these after I did the math.

They are on page 3 post #26 of this thread.

Super easy to fly. And a ton of fun to fly. I'm building a 25" version of this being that I gave this one to my father in law as a trainer.

Looks like my next adaptation to this will be the Hots Dart wing. That should be an easy conversion. The motor and battery I've used should accomidate the larger wing.

Thanks for the measurements. I don't have a printer so I'm having to wing it.
