Axe 100 CP (for a beginner)

by EraJomppa | May 6, 2013 | (0) Posted in Just Fun

So I won one of the Axe 100 CP helis from the First in fright videocontest, and I just received it today. Im posting this under "Just fun", since Im not exactly a guy to review a heli... Im total novice to helicopters (well I have a toy coaxial, but its just that... a toy). Iv not exacly posted a lot of content on Flitetest, but Im a huge fan and love flying and building RC planes. So why not start posting some stuff here too and what better to start with than this?

As you might be able to observe from the video below, I might need a few more hours of simulator time with helis before I blunge back on the sticks with this one. Its not a particularly "hard" to fly, but Im just overcompensating and getting confused and panicing the whole time :P Flying a heli isnt natural feeling to me yet and Im constantly trying to fly it like a plane. More more more time on simulator needed.

But even though I was overwhelmed with fear and stress the whole time, it was still quite awesome to fly :) I cant wait to be able to fly this thing for real. I could feel its capability, responsiveness and power but had no way to harness it into, well, say... flying forward? :D

Im aware that this might not be the very best choise as a first heli, but I begun my RC carreer with a scratchbuilt 70mm EDF jet. One might say that Im not very good at picking my "firsts". Well it might not be very entertaining for most since I lack that skill (and a good camera) to show you inverted flying with this thing ;) but here is a video of how I used up my first battery pack with my new Axe 100 CP:

Nice job! I'm glad you like it :). First thing you really need to learn is hover. It's really something you have to master, you should be able to keep the heli in 1 m2 fit a whole pack easily (tail in). Then do the same side in, and nose in. Only then it's time to fly circuits, like a figure 8. One a heli has forward speed, it takes the same stick inputs as a plane to make a turn, but you HAVE to coordinate with rudder.
Happy flying!
