Blade Torrent 110 - Micro Drone

Alex and TJ test the Blade Torrent 110 for the first time at a local park.

What we liked

  • Can fly on 2S or 3S batteries (see details in specs section)
  • Up to five minutes flight time (less if you’re flying hard)
  • Good quad for beginner to expert pilot
  • With a 3S battery, it feels like you’re flying a 4- or 5-inch quad
  • You can turn on a dime
  • The speed is incredible for the size—carries momentum well
  • When battery drops below a specific point, the transmitter lets you know
  • If you really read the manual, you can get flying within 10 minutes
  • More docile flight experience because of the heavier battery
  • Quite durable—2mm bottom x-plate, body cover and prop guards (removable)
  • Plenty of replacement parts available
  • Runs on Beta Flight
  • Decently tuned straight out of the box
  • 0 to 35 degree tilt capabilities (can change depending on skill level)

Other thoughts

  • Don’t recommend flying inside with a 3S battery
  • Somewhat loud because of higher KV motors
  • BNF (bind-n-fly) plane—it only comes with the plane and manual, so that means you’ll need a transmitter, batteries and chargers
  • The cmos camera suffers the same as most micro cameras—there can be exposure blow out in direct or harsh sunlight, the transition from shade to sunlight is rough
  • If you are a Taranis person, you need to either have a module for your Taranis transmitter or instead purchase a DX6E to bind properly to the Blade
  • If you buy PNP (plug-n-play) you can get a $40 receiver included to avoid the problem of adding a module or purchasing a more expensive transmitter
