058 Catching Up w/Josh Scott

by FliteTest | January 16, 2015 | (23) Posted in Podcasts

It's been a while since Josh Scott has been regularly in Flite Test content which is something we aim to fix! Meanwhile, he was able to join us for some podcast shenanigans where we discuss a recent FT Roadtrip, the dozen or so episodes we shot along the way, the DJI Inspire 1, and what Mr. Scott has been up to.

It is always nice to hear Josh Scott's voice. It's good to know that he is doing well. I would like to see more review videos with Josh S. and Josh B.

You guys should do a challenge where one person is blindfolded while flying the plane, and another person has fpv goggles on and is guiding the other person through flying. One person has the controller, but no eyes. And the other person has the eyes, but not the controller. Just an idea.

The 2 Joshes still make the best shows (imho)
I still want to see Josh B. fly 2 at one time. I think that would be fun. I plan on trying it soon.

In response to JoshB's fear of DJI shutting down their "drones" with a firmware update:

I have listened intently to this now. Struggling to find any actual content though: perhaps a little bit about the DJI Inspire. I love Josh B but endless repetitions of his values are NOT content. Of course, it's lovely to hear you all having such a lovely time but if it carried on like this I would stop listening to your Podcasts. Imho you need to talk a lot more about flying itself, techniques, construction, model characteristics, new products, new trends. For people like me though you could never talk too much about flying. I think that there must be a Bible of stuff worth saying and I get the impression that you fail to appreciate how isolated some of us are. You are uniquely positioned to help the WORLD'S RC community, it would be such a shame to see this opportunity wasted. Josh S, for me... always annoying, however, I think it rather rude that he was not encouraged to talk more.

I also found content to be on the low side in this episode. I respect Josh B but he seemed far from his sharpest. And although I respect Josh Scott as a person, I never fully understood what his role was in FT... Does he even like RC? Unclear. But I will remain a flitetest fan and embassador, and I look forward to the next "After Hours". I guess we're all looking forward to spring and a new flying season.

I agree with Greg. Scots Narcissism and obvious lack of interest in RC has become tedious.

The problem here is that all of the great things you get from Bixler in specific and FT in general are an outflow of those values you don't like hearing about. Their values make them care, and because they care, they are driven to do the awesome things you and I enjoy. And cut them some slack--spending every second on the details of flying is exhausting and it's impossible to maintain an interesting context in that format.

Hmm... I repeat, I really admire and respect Josh B and as a Christian myself I would have thought that I completely share his values BUT I would argue that few of the FT community (anyone who has watched or listened to more than say about 10 programs) need to be endlessly reminded of them in nearly every podcast. Also, I have to wonder, would Josh B really have no interest in RC if he wasn't able to be surrounded by friends and family ??? A lot of us have to manage more or less alone just because we love flight. Don't hate me by the way, FT does encourage us to share our views.

Come on! It's not like they're constantly outwardly sharing their faith. How secular does it really need to be?

Josh S. plays the camera well, All of the episodes I have seen though Josh has never had the controller, how would that airplane fair if Josh is watching the camera and not the sky? :)

You all are doing great. Keep talking about your values. This is a great way to get His message out. Thank you for all you have done. I would really like to see you guys on the west coast some again. Be safe and have fun!

Agreed 100%. All of the things FT does is an outflow of those values.

What a fun episode! I loved the shenanigans.
And it's only mildly weird to be mentioned on the podcast. For Austin's benefit, they really do fly for half an hour, and are mesmerizing for every second of it. The current unlimited class indoor rubber record is 61 minutes.

It's the interplay between the two Joshes that hooked me into this crazy culture. Josh Scott has some sort of magical presence that is hard to put into words. Perhaps, of all the crew, Scott is the one who really has 'camera presence', like a trained actor. He is always playing the camera.
I have no idea if you guys script much but I kind of doubt it around Scott. Bixler is an old pro. He has a different angle, in that he is like the guy with all the answers but stays humble and outgoing. You can't even train people to interact the way those two do when they get going.

I disagree with some of the others, here, in that I don't believe that everything you (FT) post has to have serious flight content. Entertainment is also a huge aspect of a whole genre thing (R/C flight). Sometimes it's appropriate to just relax and laugh and have fun.

I'm an older guy 49, brand new to the hobby. I stumbled upon flute test via you tube when all the episodes were Josh and Josh. It was so great to watch because you got a lot if info but great comedy and a definite brotherly admiration between the two of you. I kept coming back for more. No disrespect to the current guys I've seen on now, but It's nice to have Josh B the expert guy and Josh S a newbie intermediate type to draw in guts like me. The other guys are so techs and you can see they know their sh#%. Josh reminds me of Justin Timberlakes humor on Saturdsy night live and they look alike as well. Please keep Josh in the loop he really is enjoyable and relatable to the very large and growing rc population of 40-55 yr olds new to thus fun hobby. Btw your shoes are always great and filled with value added materials for every type of modeler.

and Josh is a great
