This is my version of the OLD FOGEY, 33% larger than FT foam original. It's made of Correx 2mm, exept red horizontal stab- its from 3 mm. Wing has a modified profile – a curve, not angular. Bamboo reinforcement in center wing (5 mm stick for orchid flowers), and some inside front of fuse, and sticks for barbecue in both stabs. Span 1260 mm, weight 1140 grams. Depron rips in wing, two formers in fuselage also Depron.
Two 9 g cheap servos, bowdens- welding wire 1,2 mm, run direct in flutes of fuse sides.
A block of medium-soft foam used for yoga exercises— like a brick— I don't know what yogis do with them, but I make wheels out of them. They come in beautiful colors: pink and blue—so they're perfect here.
The wheel fairings are made from plastic bottles, hot-gunned onto a wooden positive template.
The wing, landing gear, and engine compartment cover are secured with rubber bands.
At first, Fogey flew constantly as if in "wingover mode" (constantly rocking laterally). I limited radicaly rudder deflections, and it's fine. The 420W motor (3S 2200 battery) isn't excessive – model has significant drag.
But its appearance in the air surpasses all that – it flies beautifully!
