DBPOWER HAWKEYE 1: Fun in a Small Package.

A few days ago I came across this little quad on amazon, the price was right so I bought it. It came pretty fast, approximately 3 days. I was pretty excited to receive the quad as I have had small mico quads in the past, and they are a blast! I can assure you this one is crazy amounts of fun!

Once it came to the door, I dug into the USPS package like it was Christmas in February. Out came a nice looking white box, The cover pictured the outline of the quad, and dawned the name “DBPOWER HAWKEYE I”. I then started to do business in the box, and before you know it I had the packaging strung across my living room. As a note, the following was inside the box:

  • Quadcopter
  • Charger
  • Battery
  • SD Card and Reader!
  • Training wheels
  • 2.4 ghz Transmitter
  • Spare props
  • Manual
  • Prop guards

Upon first inspection, I noted the quad is built extremely well. It is molded in hard plastic, and it has some weight to it. It does not feel as if it has been made cheaply. It is colored white and black, with black and white props. This is helpful for orientation of the quad, kinda nice that DBPower took this into consideration. Everything seems extremely sturdy and could survive multiple crashes easily.

The Transmitter was kind of wonky. It is large, which I really like. Most quads this size have small transmitters, which for people with big hands (such as myself) find it hard to use the smaller remotes. This one has nice big joysticks, so I can keep my fat thumb on them. All of the controls are easy to use, and are a small distance from the joysticks. The only issue I have with remote is the fact that it is angled a little odd.

The first flight that I had taken was pretty fun, I found that the quad was set on a high setting. This meant that the quad was very responsive, and quick. I dialed it down to the medium setting, so I can get a handle on how this thing flew. It flies great and before you know it, I was putting it through little holes, and whipping it around all kinds of corners. But that being said, I have been flying for a long time.

For those who have not been flying as long as me, the company allows you equip the quad with wheels; what I call training wheels! I have not used them, but I imagine that they would be pretty nice for someone just trying to learn how to fly.

In conclusion, I like this thing. It is fun to fly, I have put about 10 flights on it so far and it has held up great! I l how well this thing flies. It is pretty smooth at the controls. Remmeber that it has no GPS, so its going to wonder around a bit. But in light wind, or inside, this is the perfect machine to kill some time with!
