Inspire 2 at DJI.com

The DJI Inspire 1 was a one of a kind professional aerial filmography platform when it was introduced into the market in November of 2014.  In my opinion everything about it completely changed drone innovation. Since that time espeically DJI has really stepped up there game when it comes to producing excellent platforms for the average consumer.  Filmography platforms really have not had the chance to catch up until now.  Here are specs and features that many filmmakers will find worth while.

Battery

With the Inspire 2 battery in every sense of the word you get two batteries in one. The dual battery design provides better saftey, reliability and redundancy to the aircraft.  That means if a problem would occur on one battery the other is able to continue flight until it can be safely landed.  Also the Inspire 2 comes with a propulsioin system that is driven by a PWM signal. If signals are lost transmission will continue through the serial port.

The battery is a 4280 mah Lipo 6 cell with self-heating technology which allows the aircraft to fly in temperatures as low as -4 degrees F (-20 degrees celcius) with up to 27 minutes flight time.

Camera

The Inspire 2 can be modifed to fit two different cameras the Zenmuse X4S ,and the Zenmuse X5S

Zenmuse X4S SPECS

1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel camera, ISO : 100-12800, Dynamic range 11.6 stops

Power by the new CINESSD system called CineCore 2.0. It processes the images in incredible speed at 100 Mbps and protection. Shoots 4K at 30 frames or 60 frames per second.

Zenmuse X5S

Latest micro 4/3 sensor, 20.8 megapixel, ISO : 100-25600, Dynamic range 12.8 stops, 8 lenses (9-45mm)

Power by the new CINESSD system called CineCore 2.0. Shoots at 4K 60 fps or an incredible 5.2K 30 fps@ 4.2Gbps

Supports 20MP RAW at 20fps(burst mode) with is a game changer for editing

The only negative I can see from these two cameras is they do not come included with the Inspire 2.

Intelligent Flight Modes

One of the disadvantages I found with the Inspire 1 was it was difficult to get the shot that you wanted by yourself.  You had to control the direction of the Inspire and also the camera gimbal.  With these different flight modes DJI solved those problems.

Spotlight Pro- Keeps the camera locked on the subject, rotating beyond 360 degrees to fix the target in frame as it flies.

Profile Mode - The Inspire 2 turns the camera to capture the subjects profile as the Inspire flies forward. It comes with forward aviodiance system up to 100 feet of a near by object.

Active Track - allows the Inspire 2 to reconigize a range of objects from individuals to bikes, cars, and boats. In previous DJI models you could only track individuals.

Sense and Avoid

The Inspire models finally introduced a sense and avoid system that is fairly comparible to the DJI Phantom 4 and the new DJI Mavic Pro.  It has a couple more features for example upward infrared sensors that can scan 13 feet above the aircraft for added protection when flying inside.

Also includes a landing terrain detection that can collect alititude data, and calculate the difference in height during auto landing between the aircrafts landing point. Making sure that the area is suitable for landing.

Other Features

Onboard FPV camera - It seperates the flight view from the from the main camera view.  This helps individuals who are flying by themselves to get the shot they want but are able to see where they are flying all at the same time by using the  tap to fly feature.  The FPV camera is capable of delivering both 1080p/740p video, choosing between a 2.4 ghz and 5.8 gh control frequencies.

Clocked speeds up to 67 MPH, it can travel 0-50 mph in 4 seconds, and effective transmission up to 4.3 miles! Accend and descend rates are 16 feet per second for P mode, and 19.7 ft per second for S-Mode.

Conclusion

"For what it is, and what it does I do not see a better filmography platform.  It will completely change how media content is shot in the future."

That being said I would not recommend the Inspire 2 for a general hobbiest, it really is tailored for professional filmakers. The price tag is very expensive so I would not be rushing out to get one.  If you are looking for a photography, and video platform I would highly recommend purchasing the DJI Mavic Pro thats one fourth the price.

Please stay tuned for a more formal review video at a  future date.
