DogFighter Jousting Challenge!

Every so often we think up a game with a concept that's simple yet has a lot of potential for both entertainment and hilarity. Today is no exception. Ladies and gentlemen, we present DogFighter Jousting.

What went down (literally)

Well, as you might have expected, both planes involved in our game went down in a blaze of glory... after virtually exploding in the head-on collision. Here's a breakdown of what happened. Our daring pilots Josh and Alex seemed to experience premonitions of the impending incident before taking flight.

One of the aircraftwas coloured in the WW2 style camouflage pattern that was supplied in the box.

The first pass was miles off. The DogFighters were swung around for another try.

The second pass was far closer as the bright color schemes of the aircraft streeked by in a blur.

Being highly maneuverable, the dogfightershad absolutely no issues with banking around in a tight circle for another go.

This time, success! Alex caught Josh's streamer right into his prop and cut a sizable chunk off instantaneously. Boom!

But on the next pass, disaster struck. This time both planes collided in mid-air resulting in a shower of aeroplane-shaped pieces of foam raining down to the ground.

Womph! Another one bites the dust.

What came next was the quick process of picking up the pieces...

...and glueing them together again! This is what Flite Test is all about - making a few memories, picking up the pieces, sticking them back together and going out to make a few more memories. If you're wondering what kind of hot glue gun we use, as we get asked quite a lot, our favourite Adtech Pro200 Glue Gun is available on our store! We use it for our scratch builds. It's great as it doesn't cool down too fast when you're trying to stick large surfaces together.

Next was to put the orange colored Dogfighterback in the air and see what it could do.

Apparently, it couldn't quite handle a tail touch so it made an inverted landing. Nice one Josh!

A lot of fun was had by all.

Fixing your RC airplanes (some succinct advice)

We all get to that stage at some point where one of our planes bites the dirt and needs some minor (or major) work to get it back up into the big blue sky.

Here's what you'll need to get your aircraft looking almost as good as new

- Time and Patience - sometimes it doesn't take all that long to fix a plane up - after all, it took just 7 minutes for the orange DogFighter in the video! With this being said, most of the time you'll need to concentrate for a little while to make sure everything's back the way it should be with your plane.

- Glue - As mentioned, our favourite glue gun is the Adtech Pro200. Repairs are easy when working with foam and hot glue. If you're using a glue other than hot glue, be sure to check if it's 'foam safe', otherwise you may end up with a melted plane that was more damaged than it was before.

- Friends - It's not essential but, as we all know, friends help in times of need (if they're good friends). They're useful for picking up the pieces and holding things together while you add glue. Unfortunately, at this time, we don't have any available in our store.

If you're wanting both some motivation and inspiration, Alex, Stefan and Bob recently put a Cessna 150 back together again on one of the latest Flite Test vlogs!

About the planes!

The Multiplex DogFighter is a tried and tested staple of the RC community. With its sleek WW2 warbird inspired lines and beefy power package, it's a fierce but agile aircraft perfect for intermediate flyers. If you are a new pilot, you might want to try a few other planes before this one, but that isn't to say the DogFighter is a bundle of joy to fly.

In terms of the spec of this fun little flyer, the DogFighterhas a wingspan of 35 inches (882mm) and a length of 32 inches (812mm). This means that it can nicely fit into the back of a car whilst not being so small that it is classed as a mini. If you want to check out some DIY planes as alternative options to the DogFighter, you can browse through them all on our store and choose which one is right for you. Also, one of our community members, Nic Lechner, has an 800mm Spitfire that you can scratch build yourself. Check it out on his website here!

For simplicity, and the sole purpose of being a fast acrobatic bird, the DogFighteris just 3 channels (aileron/ elevator/ throttle). There is the option to upgrade your DogFighter to a 4 channel setup by simply adding your own servo and hardware for the rudder channel - that way you can do some sweet knife edges!

The Dogfighter is just great with a 4s battery setup. It takes a plane that has docile stalling tendencies and enables it to push the flight envelope out to some seriously quick airspeed. You can check out all of our batteries in the Flite Test store here.

Previous DogFighter Challenge

We've had lots of fun with this plane in the past. Here is another of our challenges from back in 2013 where the FT crew attempted to take down some balloons!
