F-16 MJ - Full Fuse Depron

I always love the park jet series especially those with less foam cutting and less parts to make the whole airplane. Been finding the F-16 the way I want it to be but with no avail. By far the best result for F-16 parkjet are all 'profile type' design.

I guess, why not design a full fuse F-16 on my self with the mixture of a couple of available design here on the net.

My aim is to have a less cutting foam, mid-pusher, easy to assemble within one day, and a full fuse type of design where I can tug the electronics inside the body of the plane.

This is where I've came up with 'F-16 MJ' the full fuse version. Planning on using a turnigy 2200kv motor, 6x4 prop, 30A ESC and 2200mah lipo with it. And the construction is using 6mm depron foam sheet.

Build Log

Starting the build progress with foam cutting process on one Sunday morning. Turn out the whole plane consume 2 1/2 of depron sheet altogether. If you have a scattered left over depron sheet from your earlier build, 2 sheet of fresh depron should be enough.

I'm using a hot glue for the whole plane joints and to add to the strength, I add in a wooden spar to the wing half on each side instead of one straight spar.

The cut-out of all the parts needed for the assembly as per plan. For added strength, I usually have them all cover on one side with a clear tape.

For the tail fin, you can decide on which option you want. Either to have a mixed elevon or as normal elevator setup.

I have drawn a line to seperate on which is which need to be cut and score. Be sure to add clear masking tape at the back of the foam before scoring it to have a nice score.

Initially in my first build, I'm using the 'B' fold type for the bottom plate. but then later I find it easy in using a 'slotted' method as per my plan.

Dry fitted for both Fuse Side and Fuse panel to the Bottom plate. Once all is ok, I've applied the hot glue to get them together.

At this stage, the motor mounting also been hot glue to the fuselage assembly.

For the rest of the process, I need to skip it in this article section to make it more simpler. I believe you already got the idea in assemblying for the rest of the parts. Nothing fancy in the building process of this plane.Put in some decal using marker pen for easy orientation later on when flying.

I've completed the building in one fine Sunday morning up till the evening time. Thought that I could make it to maiden but due to the weather are no premitted, will maiden it the next morning.

Maiden Flight Video

Managed to maiden it without any stress on the design and the plane itself. It flew as what I want it to flew. Pretty sure if you put more powerful motor in, it would be more speedy.

Conclusion

Overall review I can give is this plane is easy to be assemble and completed in a day or less, doesn't matter you are beginner or professional flyer, this plane suitable for all flyer. I'm pretty happy with the initial design of this plane except for a few design amend needed in the future and maybe others can submit their ideas in improving it. If you are going to try to build this, be sure to decide on which setup you would prefer, to have an elevon or to have normal elevator. Since I'm not that familiar setting up my TX with elevon mixing, normal elevator is for me.

Feel free to download the Full Plan and get building one for yourself. Hope you guys enjoy it. Cheers.F-16 MJ Full Plan '

Wow! A very nice looking aircraft, you should be proud of doing such a great job. Well done. I like the precision of the slots for aligning all of the parts. I can never manage to get them to line up!

Thanks James. I, my self still in the learning process. Still looking for a way where more people could get involve in this exciting hobby.

I just finished building this plane. It looks very good. All parts fit exactly with each other. Good design! Made a few modifications since the foamboard I'm using is slightly heavier than depron or dollar board, and it was tail heavy. I made the canopy so that I can open and close it, and I cut a hole under the canopy. Now I can put my battery closer to nose tip. Nice work designing the F16.

Hope you are having fun flying it too. Definitely should design a open cockpit area for easy access to lipo if you are using smaller one like 1500mah. Mine was design to be use with 1800mah and above. A point for improvement on my coming project.

Thanks mate. I'm currently designing a couple of more 3d Fuselage jet with mid-pusher setup. Stay tune.

Looks great! I've wanted to do this with EDF... I bet you're going to do that next.
