I had the same problem with a cheap Goodluckbuy MinimOSD, when I tried to configure it with the FTDI breakout board which I had used before on the Tiny OSD. I went through this whole proceedure, unsuccessfully as it happens. I then remebered that the FTDI board had been programmed so that the Tx and Rx channels had been reversed for the Tiny. So I hooked the FTDI board up to the computer using FTDI Prog and reversed the Tx and Rx channels back to default, saved the settings and then tried re-configuring the OSD Minim. Bingo! no more 'Failed to talk to Bootloader'. As it turned out the GLB board actually has the bootloader installed.
Hope this helps. Best. DP
