Flying the FT Bloody Wonder (Down Under)

by Red20RC | November 27, 2013 | (0) Posted in Just Fun

The skies finally brightened today and the wind died down just enough for me to get out and do some flying.

With no camera man to hand I decided to try the GoPro Hero 3 on a head mount to capture the flights. The results aren't perfect but they aren't that bad either!

The FT Bloody Wonder however is an awesome model. I can't praise it enough for its handling both at high and low speed. This one model that I know will be going to the field every time I fly.

... and a second flight...

I am truly amazed at how well this model flies given the concern over the weight of foam board down here. It really is a credit to Josh B that this design is so adaptable and successful. It's also a bit depressing though as it is going to take ages to come up with something as good!

If you haven't built one already then you really should!

My attempt at a Quill Bloody Wonder was a flop, but only because I made a change to the plans I shouldn't have. I moved the fuse back about 1/2" so the join in the 2 Fuse pieces didn't line up with the tail join line. Doing that made getting CG far enough forward impossible. And it flew like a dog.

Might have to try again and just follow the plans :P

You should as it really is a great little model when it works! As I discovered today though, don't try to put a camera (even a little one) on it as it totally kills the performance!

Not true I had a streamer for combat and a keychain cam on mine and it still flew really well.

That's a good point. I think it was because I was using one of those Turnigy high rate cams that have to be mounted vertically. It was sticking up like a sore thumb right behind the prop. Where are you based?

Of course, I could just fit a bigger motor!
