Homemade Remote Controlled C-17

At Flite Fest West 2017, we saw some stunning projects that blew our minds. One of the projects that stood out to us was one created by community member, Ben Harber (Mid7night on our forum). He designed a RC model C-17 Globemaster III, which flew like a dream!

What we love so much about this project—other than the realistic design and smooth flight—is that he has grown up around C-17s because his father lead the structural test program on the full-scale bird! How unique is that?

Made from foam board, yes, foam board, Ben created this life-like model to specs as best he could. That’s why he says the fuselage is more octagonal than the real thing. Honestly, when it is up in the air and you photograph it, at first it’s hard to tell it is even a model! A real C-17 flew overhead and the similarities are incredible.

Ben powered it with four FMS 50mm EDFs from Banggood.

What makes us so fond of Ben Is his desire to share how he created his projects so that others can replicate and/or build on the design. Not only has he shared his plans on the C-17, but he’s also shared them on his Baby Bugatti.

We look forward to seeing more of his plane designs in the future. In the meantime, check out his YouTube channel for behind-the-scenes fun!
