The Vortex 150 Mini Racing Quad has quickly become one of the Flite Test team's favorite mini quads and we lovingly call it the squashed squirrel. We want you to be able to fly it successfully and safely, so we asked TJ to walk you through its setup.
If you have a Spektrum transmitter and a Spketrum receiver, it’s a very simple install because they already provide the cable for you to connect it to.
However, if you’re more apt to use a different receiver like the Taranis X4R, it takes a little more time and effort to install.
To replace the receiver, the first step is to remove the top plate with a 2mm hex driver (take out the eight screws on top) and replace the cable that came pre-installed with one that is compatible with the Taranis. Use the cable connecter that that a servo end on it. A pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers will help you remove the Spektrum cable connector.
Reinstall the top plate and feed the servo through.
Next, to install the X4R receiver, ensure the white wire is to the outside when you connect to the servo.
After that, slide antennas through the holes located on the back side. You’ll need to route them through the inside to the outside. You can push them slightly back in so they don’t connect with the propellers.
Stick the receiver to the top, back side of the Vortex 150.
Next, bind the radio to the receiver. During this step, DO NOT have the propellers installed on the Vortex! They don’t come installed so don’t you install them just yet either.
Install the antenna onto your VTX. If you turn on your FVP goggles prior to doing this you will likely burn out your video transmitter.
Plug in battery. Start the setup wizard. Follow all instructions on the OSD (onscreen display)
(One big benefit to the Vortex 150 is that you can do all your setup through the OSD.)
Next, install your propellers. Start with the back facing you. The back right motor spins clockwise, the front right spins counterclockwise, the back left spins counterclockwise and the front left spins clockwise. All letters on propellers should be facing up. Tighten one propeller at a time.
To adjust the camera on the front, there are two screws you can loosen then you can readjust the camera. Tighten the screws again after adjusting.

FT customer support says they weren't sure if the MZ12 /GR12L combo would work (it doesn't). I am told by Immersion RC that MZ12/GR12 or GR16 or GR18 should work.
I've found semi-descriptive YouTube videos in German where they put the V150 and the Graupner MZ12 and/or MZ-24 together successfully using a GR12, GR16 or Gr18 Rx. I don't speak German well enough to pick up on the subtleties.
I would like a walk thru of setting up the MZ12/GR18 if you are willing!
Otherwise, my Vortex150 is a bloody paperweight and I am a former hobbyist as my wife would rather I buy more diapers with that money, already spent. ;-)
