Hello friends!

Today, im going to review the Six Axis 4-CH 2.4GHz Radio Control R/C UFO Aircraft, from www.dx.com

The unit arrived well packaged, the box was packed with envelope paper and tape, to protect the unit during the travel. This is really nice, because the item comes from Hong Kong, and its a long travel to here, Cuenca, Ecuador. I have to mention that I didnt had any issues with postal service or customs. The people from dx.com marks it as a gift, so no taxes must be payed, at least in my country.

Inside the package is everything you need to start your micro multirotor experience. The package includes the micro Y6 multicopter with all the required electronics, one 500mA - 1S Lipo battery, a small usb powered battery charger, a 2.4 Ghz transmitter, and some spare propellers and a little screwdriver. The only thing you need to provide, is 6 AA batteries for the transmitter.

As you see in the picture, everything inside the box comes safely protected, even the transmitter sticks, come with a foam cilinder, for protect them in the travel. Considering that the item comes from China, and its a long travel, its nice to see that the company puts their effort to make the items arrive safe, for the happiness of the buyers.

Lets talk about the multicopter. Its very nice built. The arms are made from aluminium, and the body is plastic. The landing skids bars are carbon fiber made. The unit looks very professional for the price. My unit cames with the battery inserted into the multicopter, and I assume that it comes factory pre-tested.

The electronic board comes with everything included. It has a 2.4Ghz receiver, a 3 axis gyro, a STM8 microcontroller for the signal processing and speed controlling for all the 6 motors. Everything is installed in a 28mm X 28mm square board.

The unit, with the battery inside, becomes pretty heavy for a multicopter this size. It can weight arround 40grams, so expect some hard crashes

The remote controller feels really nice. It looks very professional. Its a short range transmitter. It has 2 gimbals, an LCD screen, and digital trim buttons. The unit has dual rates, for choose between a normal flight mode, and an acrobatic flight mode. As I told before, the transmitter unit requires 6 AA batteries, and also has a USB port, for use it as a power source for the charger included. This is a nice feature for when you´re on the road, and dont have a laptop or any other usb port power source near.

The usb battery charger is a nice plus for this multicopter. It includes the charger unit, and a usb power cable. The charger is very lightweight, and has 2 battery conectors, so you can charge 2 batteries simultaneously. But as I mention before, the unit arrives with only 1 1S 500mAh battery.

As I told you, the package contains spare propellers for the multicopter. Propellers are very very small and flexible. They seem to be very resistant to crashes, and very sharp, so please be careful when you fly near to people or pets. Due to the high rotation speed of the propellers, they can harm you.

Now the big question is: How does it flies?

Before fly, you must bind the multicopter to the transmitter. For this, with the transmitter off, you must connect the battery in the multicopter, and a couple of leds will start to blink in the main board. When you turn on the transmitter, the leds will stop blinking and the transmitter will emit a beep tone as a signal of a succesful bind.

For the first flights, you need to get used to the controls. First, make sure you have selected the low rates for the controller, setting it to HALF. To do this, you must press the front button that shows the "FULL/HALF" text, and you will see in the LCD screen that the half or full indicator shows.

To take off, apply throtle in small increments, until you see the unit leaving the floor. Then, to control the unit, move the sticks in small portions, until you get the full idea of the movement range of the multicopter.

This unit is pretty fast and responsive, but also is very stable. It can hover with minimum movements in the sticks. If you flight indoors, be very careful of walls and obstacles. The unit can fly outdoors, but you always must take care of the wind.
For flying in the FULL rate mode, I recomend you to find a large area. Belive it or not, this multicopter is pretty fast! You can lose control very easy!

The unit, with a fully charged battery can fly arround 6-7 mins, and It charges in arround 30 mins.

As a resume, I can say that:

Pros:

  • Nice packed and free shipping from www.dx.com
  • Almost ready to fly! just get 6 AA batteries for the transmitter and you´re ready to go
  • The transmitter has some extra functions besides the basic 4 channel transmitter. It has digital trims, double rates, channel reversing, etc. It comes ready to bind and fly, only a little trim is needed. If you want to explore the extra functions, you can read the included manual.
  • The multicopter is very fast and responsive to the controls. It can fly-stop-fly-stop as fast as your thumbs send the order
  • Very good materials in the build. This is for sure a quality item.
  • Spare propellers! For those crashful days
  • The multicopter is crash resistant. Just cut throtle when you are going to hit a wall or something.

Cons:

  • Long time for delivery. Almost 3 weeks from the order date until the delivery (It comes from china, so you must have to wait with a lot of patience)
  • Get ready for buying more spare parts online. This multicopter is pretty fast and sooner or later, you will break something
  • This is not a beginers aircraft!
