Ninja Quick Tip: Battery Pull Tabs - Ninjatab

Apparently some battery manufacturers don't want you yanking the batteries out of your plane by the wires.
It sounds like they know what they are talking about.
It probably IS a good idea to NOT pull the wires out of their connections just to get your battery out of your plane.
Maybe you have resorted to it from time to time. I know I have. I try to fit my combat batteries into my planes pretty tight, they can be hard to get out.
Some of my traditional planes, especially smaller ones also have very tight battery compartments.

That's where the little battery pull tab comes in. Pretty simple idea and I don't think I can take credit for it. Some of my little drone batteries come with a little piece of tape around them to help safely remove them from the drone. That's where my idea came from but I'm sure some folks have been doing this or similar for some time.

To make these all you need is a kind of longish skiinyish piece of tape. I'm sure you can use any tape you want but I prefer extreme tape for this. Keep it out of direct sunlight and it will last a lonnnnnnng time. The first thing I do is take a strip of extreme tape, stick one end to my desk and cut a strip with an exacto blade or a razor. The nature of the extreme tape makes it pretty easy to cut a consistent width. It kinda naturally wants to follow the spaces between the reinforcement fibers.

Start the wrap near the top of the battery

Around the back and back up to the top

Cut a small piece of scrap wire (or small dowel or zip tie or anything you want to use to make a little pully out of)

And place it where you want it on the tape to make it the desired length

Continue working your tape strip around making some overlap so it is strong

Completed NinjatabAnd a bunch of happy batteries with Ninjatabs

Happy Ninjatab battery in a CTH Scythe combat wing

And another one in a Skyangel 50mm EDF

You can use this same idea on other items too.
This is a wedge of foam that I use to help keep my battery from shifting around in my FT Sportster.

And since I like this little plane so much, here's a pic ;) (before it got the Ninja treatment)

Try it, you're gonna like it...

It's a nasty winter stormy night here.

Writing articles and modding things instead of flying.

Keep bulding, flying and experimenting!

These things rock. This method can be adapted to your setup as needed.
On some of my larger combat planes it helps to wrap the tape around the width of the battey instead of the length.

Look for Skyangel F9F in youtube for some inflight videos.
There is also an RC Groups forum for this series of 50mm jets

There is some info specific to the F9F but a very big thread to just try to browse through
