Scratch Build FPV Quadcopter

A few months ago I became very interested about multicoptes,  spesifically the TSB Discovery and now i try to build my version with local material.

Design:
Lenght of arm designed to get safe gap between 12inch propeller.

Material:

  • Frame made from single layer fibre PCB 150x200mm
  • Arm made from alumunium bar 12x12mm
  • Power distributor using double layer PCB
  • Nuts
  • Polyfoam 5mm and 10mm for goggles

Component:

  1. Motor: RCX 930kv 2217
  2. Flight control: CC3D with
  3. ESC: RCX Opto 30A
  4. Propeller: 1238
  5. 2x flashing LED using NE555 on front and bottom of frame
  6. Video Tx: Elgae 5.8Ghz 600mW
  7. Camera: 700TVL 2.1
  8. Goggles: DIY base 4.3"LCD TFT with magnifing sheet
  9. Ubec for receiver & FC: 5V 3A
  10. Ubec for Video Tx & camera: 12V 3A

During assembly:

DIY Goggles using polyfoam 10mm and 5mm, TFT LCD 4.3":

Video receiver on side of goggles with ex laptop battery:

Upper side:

Covered FPV camera and flashing LED:

Setup:

Favorite setup: "lazy sunday" for smooth flight
Flight Duration: (with power off video transmitter)
On 2200mAh 3s 25c Zippy Compact: around 7minutes
On 5200mAh 3s 30c HRB: around 16minutes

The ESC and motor was warm after the flight, but I thinks it was the normal temperature.

Ready go to the field:

I started with the intent of this design being foldable, but every time it folded paint on arm would scrape off, maybe I will use heatshrink for protecting the arm.  But I am statisfied enought with this result.  During the flight test I used no more than 60% throttle.  I feel this enough power during flight.

For next build I want to design a larger frame using double layer fiber PCB add compartement to hide all of the components on upper side of frame.  I'll replace the brushless motors for longer flight time using 15 inch propellers.

Short video (sorry for unstable image/vibration):
