Simple paper clip steerable tail wheel

by newbiehobbyguy | February 21, 2016 | (6) Posted in How To

When I messed up the main landing/takeoff gear on my scratch-built FT Flyer, I noticed that it wouldn't drive straight on a takeoff and would sometimes spin over and into the ground. So I decided to add a steerable tail wheel so that the airplane could not only takeoff straight but also be able to taxi.

The paper clip is simply bent up and connected to the rudder with hot glue.

Materials needed:

Paper Clip

1-2 wheels

hot glue :)

zip ties - optional

A Swappable or any airplane with landing gear

So you can now make a cheap and simple steerable tail wheel with common household materials like paper clips!

Excellent work! You are going to make some awesome airplanes if you keep trying new things and being inventive. If you were my son, I would be very proud of you! Keep thinking up things and posting videos. I can't wait to see your next project.
